Topic: Guitar History, you knew it was coming

The recent post on AMPs prompted this, list you guitar history here, if you have any favourites or special 'friends' why not add a note why.

1977(ish) SG Copy(Cherry red Gibson copy, unknown make, I was really into Angus)
1980    Fender Strat(Hardtail - awesome tone, very poor neck but was my first 'real' guitar
so loved it anyway)
1992    Washburn KC70v (super strat/Floyd Rose, replaced bridge pickup with DiMarzio Fred)
1993    Fender Strat(Mexican, nice neck ... thin, weedy tone. Sold it pretty quick)
1996    Epiphone Sheraton II (that was a sweet sounding guitar)
2002    Gibson ES 137 Custom( so much guitar to love, but fell out of love)
2003    Ibanez S1220 Prestige(super strat/Floyd Rose - ultra thin neck)

Current Axe line-up
2004    PRS McCarty Brazilian Limited Edition (what can I say - as close as you can get to Les Paul with full neck access)
2005    Strat Ultra(Humbucker & noiseless pickups) My main axe these days -  its does everything.
2007    '52 Telecaster Hotrod(Mini Seymour Duncan at Neck and very hot Single coil in bridge - Awesome)

The future:
Gibson Les Paul  or ES-339 - decisions, decisions tongue

Re: Guitar History, you knew it was coming

In rough chronological order:

1956 LP Special (bought in 1972 for $200, wicked ugly/cool TV finish--still play it, the P-90s are smokin')
1970 LP Custom (had it refinished in white to look the reissues that came out in '75)
1978 Conn acoustic (great camp guitar--loud and bulletproof)
1980 Takamine ef 340s (simple electronitcs--sounds incredible through a PA)
1980 Mexican Strat (wanted that out of phase sound)
1981 Charvel-Jackson model 6 (off my meds that day I guess)
1999 Fender JD Tele (cobalt blue with a strat pickup at the neck, really funky)
2001 Yamaha Pacifica PAC102 (bought as a backup--not bad for $250 new)
1994 American Strat (main guitar, incredible tone)

Blessings,
Larry

2006 Epiphone Les Paul
2006 Rouge Mandolin
2007 Fender Strat
1994 Peavey Reactor (Peavey's version of the Telecaster)

Re: Guitar History, you knew it was coming

First guitar was my mom's Cherry Red Gibson ES-330 (single pickup)  circa 1963 model

First guitar of my own was a '69 Gibson SG

during the 70's I had Tele Deluxe, Tele Custom, Penco Strat

1980s I had a standard Tele,  30th Anniversary(1984) Les Paul Goldtop (woe is me...sold it in '90) to buy my '81 Fender Strat, 1985 Guild D-35 acoustic

1990's bought a 1976 Ibanez Artist for a measely $250...still have it

2005 bought a '97 Fender American Standard with a B-bender which is my main guitar these days live...I use the '81 strat for studio stuff mostly.

Re: Guitar History, you knew it was coming

Well now, let's see if I can remember....(Mitch, you had a twin neck Ibanez?...did it have the 'tree of life' inlay up the neck?)....(not sure if the dates are correct)

Anyway....here we go:

1967: Suziki Classical. I was 9 years old and it was a Christmas present from my parents. The slippery slope followed smile

1969: My brother gave me his crappy Russian no-name dreadnought

1972: Shaftsbury LP Jnr copy...rollercoaster neck

1976: Yamaha SG1500...scared the pants off the Gibson corporation.

1978: Yamaha SG2000S

198?: Aria 'Knight Warrior'...black pointy crap with locking everything...well, it was the 80's

198?: Fender Japanese '50's Strat (Still got this one)

Followed by this lot but god knows what the years were.....

Non Fender Tele (USA parts) from Dr Feelgood bass player (swapped for an Ovation something or other)

Jap '60s Strat
Tokai Breezysound Tele
PRS CE22
Nik Huber Dolphin
Yamaha FG730
Line 6 Variax 600
Gretsch Duo Jet
Ozark resonator
Johnson Tri-cone
Gretsch Electromatic Sparkle Jet
Fender Custom Shop EC Strat
Gibson Les Paul Std
Nik Huber Dolphin (yep, 2nd one)
Jimmie Vaughan Signature Strat

I think that's all.....I'm sure I'll remember some more though.

never give up, never slow down
never grow old, never ever die young

Re: Guitar History, you knew it was coming

gsj-

nope not THAT twin neck- although I remember John McLaughlin playing one with the tree of life & about a million switches- mine was a blatant copy of the 'Jimmy Page' Gibson- I recall it sounded great but weighed a ton and although I'm a big guy- it was just too unwieldy & heavy- in fact my band dubbed it 'The Wardrobe' owing to the amount of space in the Van the case took up...!

Cheers!

Mitch

Re: Guitar History, you knew it was coming

Now I got a question, do you guys remember all this off the top of your head or do you have it written down somewhere?  I am impressed with everyone's recollection. I find it all very interesting.     patttyluvsjoe

I agree. I've owned several guitars: Fender American Strat, Fender Highway 1 Strat, Fender Jimmie Vaughan Strat, Fender Mexican Strat, SG copy, Aria Pro, Dean Z but I can't recollect the details like these guys. Amazing.

Joe, Would you please continue on with your list?  Come on, blow us away.   I find this whole thread incredibly interesting.  Joe's added another twist to it by putting his age along side.  The rest of you guys got some editing to do now.  lol  PC, you are funny smile   Patty

Re: Guitar History, you knew it was coming

good grief you guys have owned some absolute corkers(yes I've read them all) .... and sold 'em /cry/ ... the sad reality is to move on you sometimes have to part with well loved guitars.

Joe: "8 1954 Fender Stratocaster Hardtail (age 13 Bloodline and [thank you Walt Disney and the Mickey Mouse Club])"    you can't leave it at this.... you must explain tongue

Personally I dont know why Hardtail Strats arent more popular... a strat sound but DEEEEPEERR tongue

Re: Guitar History, you knew it was coming

I have every guitar I've ever owned, and I don't intend on that changing. But here ya go:

Surf green Strat made from kit parts (my number one)
A standard Telecaster in candy apple red (really love the tone especially in the middle position)
A black Strat that's basically a Frankenstein now, so many parts changed
An Ibanez Artcore AGS (beautiful and great tone too!)
An Ibanez acoustic (they make really good acoustics and semi-hollowbodies)
And a Fender sunburst resonator (needs the bridge to be replaced but it has a great tone to it)
