Topic: A ten-year old Valentine's Day story to make you smile!
After a long night up with my son (asthma problems) I wake up this morning at 5:45--feeling a little on the groggy side. I turn on TV just to see if school is closed. Everything surrounding our area is closed, but not us. I grab my coffee and start packing my daughter's lunch. I make sure both of their backpacks contain their valentines and treats--all good so far. I then wake up my daughter because it usually takes a few times to get her out of bed. Then I go to get my son up. Seems he had some sort of allergy/eczema thing on top of the asthma and I had to put him in the tub 'cause he was bright red and itchy. As I did that, I also gave him a dose of Zyrtec to try to calm his reaction to “whatever it is this week“.
In the meantime, I’m on my third request for my daughter to wake up and I’ve resorted to threatening her telling her that the school principal will come find her. She finally gives in and gets up. I get them both breakfast and get them all bundled up. By 7:00 I am watching for the bus . Ten minutes later, no bus. I ask my daughter to double-check the school cancellations on TV and sure enough, at the last minute they have decided to cancel! Aaargh--I could have slept in!
They are both awake now and there is no getting them back to bed. My son is actually tired from the Zyrtec and his lack of sleep last night, but instead of resting he has chosen to irritate his sister instead.
I start picking up the house and cleaning. My phone rings and it is my husband who was already gone to work when I woke up. He tells me Happy Valentine’s Day and tells me to turn on 105.7 WAPL--a local classic rock station which I did and then we hung up. I turn it on and they are doing a contest. It was for Valentine’s Day and I think it was called, “I can’t believe I did this to my spouse/significant other and we are still together. I’m doing the dishes and listening and all of the call-ins are quite funny. The phone rings so I shut the radio off and it is my mother-in-law calling to tease me ‘cause I’m stuck at home with the kids and more snow. I talked to her for probably five minutes and my husband kept beeping in. I hung up with her and picked up with him. He yells, so what did you think? Think . . . think about what? So he asks you still have the radio on right? Oops--I tell him that I’ve shut it off to talk to his mom. He responds--You didn’t hear me? I just won the contest!
Okay, remember the name of the contest was “I can’t believe I did this to my spouse/significant other and we are still together. We hang up and I am getting text messages, my cell phone is ringing and my regular phone is ringing as well. Seems a lot of our friends were listening and were familiar with the story. I never did hear it air, but following is the true story he told. I hope this makes you laugh.
Ten years ago on Valentine’s Day one of my husband’s friends was in town for a couple of days. He and my husband hadn’t seen each other for a few of years and decided they were going to go to a couple of bars to "catch up". I was nine months pregnant with our daughter and due any day. They went out that night and I went to bed. I woke up because my water broke at about 3:30 a.m. Because we knew our daughter was breech, it was very important that I go in to the hospital as soon as my water broke. My husband was back from the bars by then and I woke him up and told him my water broke and we needed to go in right away. We were only five minutes from the hospital and I wasn’t having contractions yet--which is normal when your water breaks.
So we get to the hospital and I’m handed a gown and am placed in a room. I’m being asked all kind of questions and am examined to see how far I am dialated. Three different people examine me and determine that my water didn’t break! What? Come to find out, my husband had had a little "too much to drink" and peed the bed--me included!
Less than a week later, our beautiful daughter was born--at the same hospital! The nurses remembered my husband and were pointing and laughing when we came in for the second time.
