Topic: Dr Z

Any of you guys using a Dr Z head and cab? I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Re: Dr Z

My brother played one for a while, now has a Fuchs.  I'll ask him if you don't get a lot of feedback soon from forum guitarists.

Re: Dr Z

Thanks Jeff. I'm thinking of getting a Maz 38 Snr with a 2x12 cab......don't tell my wife that I'm about to spend almost £1800 smile It's all in a good cause big_smile

Re: Dr Z

I remember when I did the Brad Paisley gig a while back he had a whole wall of 'em...He sure seemed to like them and sounded pretty good, too.

Re: Dr Z

Picking up a Maz 38NR head in blond tolex on Sunday and the matching cab is due in around 2 weeks. (Anyone want a used DSL50 head and 1936 cab? smile )

Re: Dr Z

You have to write a quick review of the amp. I'd be interested in hearing comparisons between the dsl and the Dr Z. The demos from youtube sound amazing!
There are a lot of great youtube demos of the various Dr Z amps if anyone is interested. I'll take a Mazerati GT please.

Re: Dr Z

No probs. I'll let you know how it behaves after I've gigged it a few times.

Re: Dr Z

He He!!!!.....got the head home today and ran it through my Marshall 1936 cab (waiting for the 2x12 Z cab to arrive). Sounds sweet at 'home' volumes....can't wait to crank it big_smile

Re: Dr Z

Ken, used it at a rehearsal last week and it's much cleaner than the Marshall but with a fatter sound. I think it's louder too. First gig with it is this weekend. Can't wait....it's loaded with TONE!!! big_smile

Good luck this weekend. Give us a report on your thoughts about the amp from the gig!

Re: Dr Z

Ken, the Z is just loaded with tone. I loved my old Marshall but the sound from the Maz38 is just fantastic. The 2x12 cab is due this week and that will make things even sweeter. One thing though....it's bloody loud for 38 watts big_smile

Re: Dr Z

Congrats! Are you using OD/Distortion pedals for songs that require more hair, or are you just sticking with the cleaner sound (and brushing up on your technique wink )?

Re: Dr Z

big_smile big_smile big_smile Yep, had to brush up on my techinique 'cause the Z shows your sloppy playing without a doubt. The dep I did last weekend needed a bit more gain than the Z gives so I used a T-Rex Moller pedal. With the band I start with in March clean/crunch is what's needed so it should be good.

Re: Dr Z

Hey man,
I did ask Mr. Guitar about that DrZ...you've already figured it out.  His words:"...bold, clean, round, full, the notes ring out as you pick them and you can't cheat it a bit.  If I was Brad Paisley I'd be very happy using one.  But I can get the same tone out of my Fuchs and the roachy w/o the pedals.  So since I am (backbeatblues.com) and playing a LesPaul, the Fuchs is a better match for me."

Not a Fuchs, a blues club gig, with cheap backline club amps and a Klingon from Uranus running sound, all recorded on a Hi 8 camcorder live.  http://youtube.com/watch?v=VAbzPfnf4Ac  and http://youtube.com/watch?v=lJwoblzkels&feature=user  You might like the GUITAR...drool!
