Topic: Fender Hotrod DeVille...?

I currently play through a stock fender hotrod deville. I just read that the stock fender speakers are garbage. Im looking at the 12in. Celestion Greenbacks. Good idea??

Hi there.
Its partly true that the stock Eminence speakers that come in the Hot Rod Deville (and countless other Fender amps) are not great.  They actually sound pretty good at low volumes but as you get louder the low end turns to crap and you lose all definition.  So if you like to crank it, replace em.  Now concerning the greenbacks, they probably wouldn't be bad but remember the greenbacks add their own flavor to the sound and tend to sound better with distortion ala Marshall. So if you use the overdrive channels on the amp a lot then the Greenbacks may work for you (IMHO the overdrive on these amps are crap, get a good distortion pedal instead and just crank the clean side).  You may instead want to try a slightly cleaner speaker and let the amp do its thing some good choices might be:

EVM 12L - Great speaker, its in Mr Bonamassa's rig right now
Celestion Classic Lead 80 - Its supposedly Celestions clean speaker
Celestion G12T75 - A surprisingly good speaker for clean and easy to find at a good price
Eminence Red White and Blues - It has gotten some really good reviews

Check out some of the other Eminence speakers too as they have a ton of good sounding ones.  Try a few different speakers before you settle on one.  Most are priced pretty decent.  Anyway, hope some of this was helpful.
