Topic: Holy Amp! The Super Bad Fender Super Champ XD
I just got the Fender Super Champ XD. Its a 15W Class AB amp with 6V6's. It has two channels one straight tube and the other with (I assume) a digital tone stack / preamp which has 16 voicings which emulate everything from tweed to blackface to marshall and beyond.
I am blown away by this amp! I have played Fender's Cyber series and was impressed with some of the tones, but this thing is unreal. The "models" actually not only sound excellent, but they feel right. They have the breakup, compression you expect from the amp its emulating. Its sick. The plexi, blackface and bassman settings are insane. The built in effects are aimed at the classic player and are well done as a bonus. Not to mention the tube channel also sounds great.
The funny thing is I wasn't buying this for the models. I saw the specs and was hoping to run the tube channel as a sort of a "Deluxe Reverb Jr." I figured I couldn't go too wrong, the thing is only $299. Now, I think I'm going to use this thing for most venues as well as practice and ditch some of my pedals.
This thing really benefits from running into a different cab / speaker(s). The on board 10" is a bit thin and not that great. Also, it's a bit too bright. I keep the treble at 3 or 4 and the bass almost all the way up with single coils. With humbuckers it levels out with more standard EQ. Also, there is no standby switch, and dedicated global reverb would have been good instead of having as an effect with the others. But overall, I highly recommend you guys check this out. Here is a video of guy going through the 16 settings with the stock speaker:
