I have seen him live, and I can tell you, he is unbelievable! I am a fan! He and Joe could rule this thing.
They mention David Z on the site, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne, Prince, John Mayall and so on.
Makes me wonder if he has some conection or is it just a wish list kind of thing.
I read where he is looking for street team people, put me down, what would be super, duper cool is if he opened for Joe. Maybe it will become an Eric Clapton, Duane Allman thing!

Hey 800 lbs
Joe is the rule
Jon
No doubt. Would you agree that we need more to refresh the genre? Can anyone person keep it alive?
Joe rocks! But the fun is one day when a great group gets on the stage like Crossroads, one man does not make a group. And really, they are very different players but from the same family.

I do agree we need more, just this week from as i say "THE BEST DAM FORUM IN THE WORLD"
i was turned on to Tallan&Carl - Seasick Steve - If you have a chance go to there my space sites and check these guys out. I think if there is one person to keep it alive it is Joe .From his blues in school, to this forum ,to touring all around the world.I know he gives it 110%
I would love to see Joe at Crossroads someday cause i think he would BLOW the crowd away, but until that happens my fun will be at the next J B show in the midwest.
Buy the way Welcome to the forum
Jon
Yeah, Ben is good. It's great to see young people cranking the blues...I'm not comparing him to Joe at all...but kudos to anyone sticking to the blues
I agree, anyone who sticks to the blues in this time of crappy noisy music is a hero. I hate the disrespect so many try and have for the blues, just shows thier ignorance: without blues artists there would be no R&B, Rap, Rock and perhaps a few others I do not want to mention.
Right now, blues has Joe, I mean in the sense that he is an exciting national artist. John Mayer, Clapton, and a few others are not known by the general public for their love of blues.
I think Ben Robinson is going to be the next big national blues artist, and much like Lang, and Kenny Wayne did, he will bring a lot of positive press, new players and fans. Its one of the reasons I talk about him.
I really dig KWS too and discovered him way before JB, but I like JB 10 times more because he is SRV and a hell of alot more. No disrespect to KWS, but he just sounds like a SRV clone, same guitar, look, sound, songs, etc, etc, etc. Again, I still like the guy...and kudos to young players staying the course with the blues.
I first saw Ben about five years ago at a Motorcycle charity event. (B.A.D. Ride) in So Cal. Each year he played there my friend and I would comment on how he was getting better and better. Glad to see he is getting more recognition.
You saw him live too! Same here, he gets better every show, this kid is scary, at 21 he is very good, what will he be at 25?

I went and checked out Seasick Steve, he is an original, lived the life, interesting chops.
More than likely we must admit, not the one to lead the charge into the next generation of blues, but certainly deserving of being included into the modern tapestry.
What, tapestry, sorry, he's cool anyway.
On Robinson he has a new street team page, and it says a single is due out soon produced by David Z.

No disrespect to KWS...but he cant sing...hey I give him props for trying....but Noah is one of the best on the planet...and Kenny can sound like SRV all night for me....the mans a beast..."voo doo chile"...are you kiddin..."scorchin"...just my 2 cents

Came to my neck of the woods, awhile back. There's some stuff on youtube @ bank & blues. I'm glad he's trying to play blues...He has potential, but I left after an hour. Heard it all before.
Just old and grouchy, I guess. I'll hope for the best.
He's good but a good guitarist does not a bluesman make. Gotta pay some dues.
mi opinion,
Jeff
Edited to say:
To be somewhat fair, I must say that he was not with his own band. Again he has potential A LOT OF IT. Hope he follows his own muse instead of star struck clingons that would tell a 21 year old kid that he's fabulous...then steal his soul.
No playing, coke snorting, star pimping, stench oozing, greasy little demons. But what do I know?
So, everyone who does not play and works to make an artist's dreams come true is a to quote you, "No playing , coke snorting , star pimping , stench oozing, greasy little demons", makes me wonder if you play? Just looking at you, I could spout a lot of sterotypes, would not mean I would be right, but I could do it. Artists cannot do it by themselves, no one does, just a very offensive statement to make. Uncalled for as well. Frankly, you sound bitter, someone must have ripped you off.

Fair call. You could do exactly that. Now, read my post again and see if the word all or every is found anywhere.
You jumped bad kinda quick, but that's OK. Yes I play and have for over 40 years. In the music biz, the type of people I mentioned exist and thrive on stealing the souls and dreams of the young and talented. I still have not said all, or every, and I will again state that I hope he does not fall prey to aforementioned starstruck clingons.
I'm also interested in what stereotypes you would spout about looking at my avatar. Please enlighten me. Just for fun
I think the only ones that I possibly could have offended are the ones that are guilty of such behaviour. The veterans in the Biz know who they are. When I see 'em, I call 'em. Why are you offended?
We are in complete agreement that an artist does not make it alone. Nobody does.
Most of what happens on this forum is uncalled for (in the grand scheme of things,) if we want to get serious. It's just a place to share.
I have lived long enough to have been ripped off more than once. I'm not bitter about anything. I'm having a grand time stirring it up.
I say again, "I'll hope for the best!"
Peace
Jeff
In order for blues to survive you need both new music talent and management talent to keep it alive for the next generation. It is alright to celebrate the past, yet, why did the early players not just continue to do only their old songs? One reason, they had to keep it fresh to keep getting the bookings. If they embraced new material and artists for that matter, we must.
Relatively few youngsters are taking up blues, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne, close but seem to have given up on the blues, Kenny's case, seems a quality issue, not sure of that one as I have not heard from him in awhile.
Ben Robinson is interested in playing the blues and seems to want to take it to a very high level, which will be good for blues if he makes it. David Z seems to think he is very special and he produced the most successful blues artists in the last twenty years, maybe Ben is special?
Ask Z.
As to your look, just making a point and as to the managment of Ben, why not email him and ask. At 21 he has seen a great deal, just look at his bio, maybe he will confirm what you intimated.
If you say he's in good hands, then my hope that he does not fall prey to charlatans is realized.
Are you in the music Biz? Do you play, too?
Curious
Jeff
I am a music lover. Ben got me into the blues, I saw him when he was a kid on Letterman, Nick and a few other places.
I guess he had to wait to get his voice before he could start breaking.
I hope you got my point on the management deal?
If you want Blues to survive, you need label's, management, and venue's to be interested in having something to do with it. They will not if they think people do not care. They will not, if people try to make it all about the past, they will not if there is no money to be made, they have to pay the rent. That includes the Bank and Blues, did you notice how many people were there last week when Ben and Tony were in the house. More fans, and a lot of the best blues talent in Daytona.
You must make the music an EVENT, create excitement, keep it fresh, and then we all have to go and buy beer! That should not be too difficult.
So instead of being critical, we need to embrace those who are in to the blues, and educate those who do not understand it.
Let everyone know, all most every major band, or singing star would not be known if not for the BLUES!
Help me off my soap box please..
