Amen, Jane. Keeping it real!
The dude was right in his comments about sports forums...maybe I should stick to music!
RiverCat-lots of excellent points...in some ways I was too brief and off the cuff with the Donovan comment and you definitely know more than me about TO's past in San Fran. Philly knew they had a live wire to deal with and honestly I don't resent Donovan for TO's release...it would have been nice if it worked out here and TO changed some of his evil ways. My frustration has more to do with being a Philadelphia Eagles fan on so many levels & its based more on emotion than fact...I guess I wouldn't make a good lawyer or sports analyst. Donovan is still not 100% with the ACL... When quarterbacks are having a totally off day and have demonstrated inconsistency in the past, I think the coach should try someone else...that's pretty much it!
Emotionally, Donovan is very likeable & stable, is a good role model and he even food shops for his wife...;) The Philly crowd isn't always an easy one. I understand TO was not nice to Jeff and implied he was into guys, then Jeff marries a very beautiful lady...I thought what a way to stick it to him. I really like Jeff, it's a shame we couldn't afford to keep him. You couldn't be more right, TO is not a team player at all, major ingredient needed in a team, especially to get thru the hi's and lo's...and as long as he's winning like I said to Deezer, all is good. Believe me I understand why Philly couldn't renew TO's contract, it was a no win situation...talk about high maintenance!!
I don't know that much about this, but want to dig into more. My kids tell me Philly could have had Randy Moss, but passed him up not wanting to get into another TO situation. Moss is playing amazing.
Jane, football pants are hot! Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!!

You should see mine Jane! When the Packers play in the dead of winter, I just love to get one of my Packer sweatshirts on and then wear a pair of long johns for the bottoms. You're warm and yet there's this sense of freedom that comes along with wearing long johns. Of course, slippers are also a prerequisite for any beer or bloody mary runs during the game. I've even grilled out in this get up, although when I go out to tend the grill, I put on one of my Packer stocking caps or baseball caps to to protect my head. You can't be too cautious when it comes to winter cold!
Roy
Roy,
Okay I know I'm way off topic here, but what the heck, it's in off topics, right?
This long john attire you speak of . . . I believe this is only accepted in Wisconsin. I am NOT kidding when I tell you that the only clothing I've ever seen my brother-in-law in is either long johns for the colder months or tighty whities for the warmer months. Every year we always have Thanksgiving dinner at our house. The only year he dropped in, the guy actually showed up to my house in his long johns!
They also struggled. You also gotta remember the Cowboys had Michael Irvin before. Look at how that turned out. Sometimes you have to let the outlandish be outlandish, and they will be great. I truly think that once you let T.O. be T.O., instead of trying to reel him in, he's comfortable. Yes, he hams it up. A lot of great receivers have. It's basically the primadonna position of the NFL. Like I said, look at Michael Irvin. He was allowed to be himself, and there is not one person that played with him that didn't enjoy playing with him. You've heard it from everybody this year, T.O. is much better to be around this year. And that is because the coach and the quarterback know how to handle him. Someone as talented as him, you don't just blast him when he wants the ball. You give it to him. Either you give it to him and he makes huge plays, or he screws up and you have leverage when he demands the ball again. So far, it's working out great. He's having the season of seasons. And the crazy thing is, despite giving him the ball so much, he still doesn't have half of Romo's touchdown passes.
I can think of lots of great players that never danced or preened after scoring touchdowns. Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton (I know, they're all running backs) and Jerry Rice come to mind. I forget who the quote came from, but somebody said that when they scored a touchdown, they wanted to act like they had been in the endzone before and like they were going to be there again. I'm not saying there shouldn't be any excitement, but let's leave the choreography at home. Many of today's players react as though they've just won the lottery.
Hello,
Funny you should mention this. It seems you've jumped quickly on my back for some of my posts Deezer. And yet, I don't do the same to you. There are things that I disagree with you on, but I don't try to start an argument because I'm not going to convince you nor are you going to convince me. Years ago when I was younger, I used to enjoy verbally sparing with people, because generally when push came to shove, they'd end up cowering in a corner after one of my verbal onslaughts. But today, I feel people have the right, no, the need to show exactly who and what they are on any Forum. The question is, should we criticize Joe? My answer is, Absolutely, Positively NO!! Joe pays the bill for this Forum and like it or not, ultimately he is the boss. Do I think I'm capable of criticizing Joe, Answer, NO!! Who the heck am I to criticize someone who's spent his life in the music business. Hey, if you don't like it or you think you can do better, then get off you sorry A** and do it!
I think Jim and Phil do a commendable job at maintaining order on this Forum. I hear some people whine every time someone gets kicked off of here. But let's face it, they had it coming!! They aren't head hunting unless you break the cardinal rules of ripping people or Joe apart. And if you do that, then I say "Hang "em High"!!
Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I'm not going to sit back and listen to people go on and on anymore about this or that is bad about Joe. Hey, you don't like it? Go somewhere else because you aren't going to be missed by most of the devoted fans that live here!!
Roy
I think you're misunderstanding jumping down your throat vs. just being plain spoken and to the point. I do that to everybody. Straight up and to the point. Even if my best friend says something I don't agree with, I'm not going to walk around it. I'm going to take it on. In other words, don't take it so personal dude. I expect the same from everybody. And it's not an argument if you're respectful towards each other.
And this was not a criticizing statement. This was simply me commenting on the different cultures in sports vs. music message boards. There is clearly a divide. I personally think you're taking this idea a bit too far. I wouldn't dare do what I do on sports message boards here, because it's a different atmosphere, and I respect what Joe and the moderators are trying to do.
Where in the world did you get that I was upset here. Go back and read my original post. I think you're overreacting. Is it wrong to just comment? I'm sorry, but you're not going to tell me I can't do that, because I wasn't even criticizing anybody here. Everybody here does a good job. Even you, when you don't get overemotional like you are now. Jeez, get a grip dude.
I think what has happened was you have gotten upset because I didn't agree with what you said, and now you're looking for anything to get back in my face. Dude, just because I disagree doesn't mean I have it out for you. You should look at it the same way. Now, I'm not going to get into it anymore. If you have a problem with how I post, that is your problem, and not mine. I happen to know for a fact through emails and such just how many people on this forum love my posts.
In the end, though, I have no idea why you could even think that I was criticizing the moderators here. That just blows my mind. Was it where I said that on here, if we were to get in an argument that it would be quickly nipped in the bud? Because that is true, and that is a good thing, because on this board, I have seen what happens when an argument is not nipped in the bud. And Joe's board is not the place for a huge argument. And did you happen to miss the several where I said I was "marveling at the differences." I just think you're overshooting this. LET IT GO.
photogal wrote:Deezer,
Is the message board for the Razorbacks owned by the team?
I think part of the reason is that you usually know if you like a team before you seek out a forum. Many people come to Joe's web site to find out more about Joe and to hear what his music is like. This web site for Joe is his means of public relations. For many it is their first taste of Joe. I applaud the moderators here for the tediious work they do, making sure that the topics are reader friendly for all ages. I know some people who have posted here get upset because very negative comments will be dealt with, but so be it. Joe pays for this web site and has a right for this forum to reflect a positive attitude regarding his music.
If you were new to Joe's music, having never been to a show before, and read a bunch of negative stuff here you might not go to a show or buy CD's. If you read something negative on a forum regarding your sports team you would still probably get tickets to a game.
~Rhonda
Really, the answer is EXACTLY the reason posted above by photogal. Pay specific attention to the main paragraph in the above post.
That is truly why we attempt to moderate it the way we do.
People do wonder why they are on such a short leash when they decide to criticize Joe, but the facts are this is not the place for that.
.....and Jane was correct when she stated that this post should have been made in the "Off Topics" area. It has been moved.
We do attempt to take a hands off approach to moderating the forums, as they were unmoderated for a long period of time. We are able to just let them run as long as everyone tries to follow the intent and spirit of the posting guidelines.
Most recently things got a little out of hand and we have made a conscious effort to reel it back in, so a firmer approach has been used and will continue to be used until the offenders get the message or can no longer post here.
Have a great day!

PC, I know what we're trying to do here, and I support you guys 110%. You guys rock.

I know. What I'm saying is some are more flamboyant than others. Just let them do it. And this year, I have noticed an absence of that from TO. He's done a lot better. And Angela on her comment "if he's winning, all is good" of course it is. I would hate to be around any player who was in a good mood when they were losing. The thing is, with Romo at the helm, things may be good in Dallas for a while. Tony Romo, instead of acting like a hard case and trying to be THA MAN regarding TO, has instead stepped back and laughed at everything. His personality fits in perfectly with TO. He's laid-back, funny, has a smile on his face the whole time. He is the young Brett Favre in more ways than just the ways he plays the game. When TO even starts his stuff, Romo just laughs it off and really is good at neutralizing the situation. I think it's a perfect storm in Dallas right now. And I couldn't be more excited. After enduring the last 10 seasons of futility, I am very happy to be a Cowboy fan right now.
I think this message should be a open forum were people can express their thoughts good or bad. With that said its also operated and payed for by J&R adventures. I need this to be a clean forum cause whats the use of going to all the schools and inviting kids to join if their first impression is a bunch of people calling each other out on a particular set or what not. Its bad for buisness and turns new people off. Thats what we are trying to accomplish here. I think Jim and Phil do a excellent job keeping things honest yet sane. "Sane" is the operative word. It can get out of hand. I see it all the time. Things are typed that would never be said to someones face. ( My rule of thumb... If you cant say it dont type it.) There are plenty of forums to bash away at old Joe B. This is not one of them. If Jim and Phil dont get rid of a thread I will frankly. This a democracy here but based on people keeping criticizm in the constructive realm and without using cheap shots rudeness or vulgarity. Thats all I ask. You dont like the show? .. this is the forum for you to say that. If you think I was rude or didnt shake your hand with the firmness you thought I should, this is the forum for you. If you want to make cheap shots and call me names or just be plain rude or vulgar no matter the subject, then your going to get banned. Anybody would do the same thing given my position. I guess I should of clarified it sooner. 99.9 percent of the post are cool. (good or bad) I get a kick out of them honestly. I also love the fact that so many new friends have been made thru here. That makes me so very proud.

joe , first off no need to shake anyones hand with firmness you play the guitar and your hands are your life so guard them as much as possible , if i was you i would go with the fist to fist thing this way you don't get someone trying to crush your hand . to me i think it's very kind of you and cool of you that you come on the forum and talk with people and answer question people ask not many musican do that and i thank you for that . as for being vulgar i understand complete about you having new fans and kids from the schools comming on here and you want to keep it as clean as you can and i believe most people on here get it . ( sometimes i get out of hand but i try to keep it as clean as i can .i blame it all on roy the bluesman and micheal batman lynch ) that being said keep up what you are doing and everything you wish for will come to you . also how was the rack on that girl in that resturant tony's in westhampton lol .see you on the road soon enjoy the tunes . one more thing if you need someone to go through the music from this tour and pick out the best cuts from each show i am your man just give me a hola and i will be more then happy to go through that music for you compile a great disc of live cuts for you .........later joe
And again Joe, this thread was not started because I was criticizing or talking bad about anything you or the moderators do with this forum. It was simply supposed to be a comment on how different two types of message boards are. I will again say that I completely agree with and accept how things go on here. I mean, I've been on music boards not operated by the artists, just by a fan, and there still seems to be a bit more respect and civility compared to a sports message board. Frankly, I wouldn't want this site to be an anything goes type of forum. It would suck, and again, as you said, would be bad for business. I just noticed how they were different, not really criticizing one way or the other.
As a matter of fact Joe, talking about other boards to slam you on, I belong to this other blues forum. I won't name names, out of respect, because it is a good forum for blues. But there was a thread there where several people were saying some not so cool things about you. I got in there and debated with them, argued with them, and in the end, they really didn't have a leg to stand on regarding the things they were saying. Just some of those "blues purists" that we all have to fight when talking about you or Stevie or Clapton or even someone like Chris Thomas King.
Joe...Thanks for taking the time to explain things in your own words and in a NICE way. That's why we work so hard for you. There are great people here of various "flavors" from around the world. Way cool! Cathy
....and with those last few posts it leads me to say......
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!
I also love the fact that so many new friends have been made thru here. That makes me so very proud.

Dear Joe,
I thank you for this. It is a wonderful thing you have done.

Yo Deezer.... Its the same for KWS and Jonny Lang and a bunch of us.. Again I dont care what they say on the Purist forums and would never want our people to go over there and start a war.. The CIA calls it blowback. Jus them coming on here and starting one. Plus you'll never convince them otherwise. They hate me and the others and have the right to do so. Albiet very strange and self defeating I think. Why you wouldnt want the blues to gain a new audience by changing it a bit is beyond explaination. Thats what their forum is for. Anyway I appreciate everybodys comments here and welcome them. We have a very good thing going that Im very proud of.

I completely agree. I was very respectful, just asked them questions, basically. And that's also why I didn't post anything about it over here, because I knew that would start a war, which would actually make you look worse. It was more a discussion than a argument, and a lot of people who just knew you passingly came to your defense.
Happy Thanksgiving dude. AND GO COWBOYS! I figure if you're from New York, you might be a Giants fan, which might chap you a bit.
I've been on this forum for 18 months and it amazes me how few meltdowns I've seen. Actually I can think of only one tiff that anyone got into and that was stopped pretty quickly. I've been on other forums where people get into total flame wars that result in lots of shouting (of the virtual type) and people storming off in a huff. I keep waiting for it here and it never happens. Kudos to Joe and the moderators for keeping things sane.
I also want to say that I think that's because of Joe's personality and the kind of ship he runs in general. It's obvious Joe likes his fans and likes his crew and that's reflected by energy at the shows and here on the forum.
I'll second that
Geoff
Thanks Joe!
I for one, seem to always find something to talk about here so I like checking in frequently...cool people and nice conversation. I tried giving it up a few times, but I seem addicted and didn't enjoy the withdrawl, then I couldn't figure out why I was trying to deny myself...SO....it is what it is....I CAN'T QUIT YOU BABY...
With that said, Joe, you are just the coolest person, I love you, not like in love with you, you know what I mean, just love you like another kind of love! Like a pattyluvsjoe kinda' love.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, thanks for all the time and effort that goes on behind the scenes with the moderators, Joe's team etc. A special thanks to Jim & Phil and to Stu & Melissa! Also, thanks to Nick for his efforts!
My husband and I have a one word code, that when we say it to each other, we know to stop and think real hard about what we are saying, before we regret it! We call each other our middle names! So, if I get way out of line or too emotional just call me Jane! On second thought, I guess it should be Jane2, being Bonametal Jane has a larger than life presence here.
