Topic: New Convert

Last night , June 1st, I went to a Kenny Wayne Shepherd concert in Deer Valley Utah.  It was an outdoor concert at the base of a ski lift.  The setting was stellar.  I yawned as the first warmup artist came and played and as the second warm up act setup, I wondered if it was a good time to wander off and get a drink and take a bio break.  Instead I sat, yawned, and then within 2 seconds of Joe taking the stage and and the first few licks, I was BLOWN AWAY.    What a discovery for me!  Joe and his band had the place rockin for 1 hour of some of the finest, tightest, blues and rock I have ever heard.  The sound was much tighter and more balanced than Kenny.  Don't get me wrong, Kenny blew us away also, but to expect nothing and have a performance that Joe put on was a total surprise.  I have already bought every CD and DVD he puts out and booked tickets in Las Vegas for his shows and Boulder Station.

If you ever read these Joe, you were AWESOME!.  I loved your bass player and your drummer was one of the tightest I have ever heard!

Hey Brainsalad...great handle!
You've just joined a club that is growing on a daily basis. Many of us that frequent this site have similar stories. I think most people here heard Joe's music before seeing him live. Like you, my first time hearing Joe was at a live performance, before I had any idea who he was, and I had the same reaction: I was just blown away! It's hard to believe that someone with Joe's talent is not known to the entire world. Most of the people on this site want to fix that and are doing everything possible to spread the word about Joe.
Welcome aboard! You'll meet some great people if you frequent this site, all of them with the same passion for Joe's music.

Re: New Convert

I'm amazed that Kenny would have Joe on the same bill.

KWS is ok, but IMHO compared to Joe, he sounds like a kid playing rubber bands stretched around a cigar box.

Re: New Convert

What a coincidence! I heard of Joe coming to Pittsburgh through the K.W.S.B. website forum and took a total strangers word for it that it would be worth it to see him.Bought tickets for the show on line that morning, then went to the mall and found Joe's S.I.L.T. cd+bonus A.N.D.Y. live dvd.I was pretty impressed but man when that night of the live show in a fairly intimate venue was over,I was on a mission to get (which I am the proud owner of) every other cd and the ROCKPALAST dvd.Got to see Joe again a month or so ago in Maryland and cant wait to see him again in OCT./NOV..Enjoy your new found infatuation,i doubt it will go away anytime soon !    DARRIN

Tell me about the car i saw parked outside your door ? Tell me what you left me waiting two or three hours for ? Tell me why when the phone rings, baby, your up and across the floor ? Please dont keep me wondering no more.....

Brainsalad - if you're going to be in Vegas in August, let me know. I'll save a couple extra seats at our group of tables.

The blues isn't about a look or a specific sound, the blues is something deep within. But the sound doesn't hurt things, you know? ~ Ben Hernandez

Re: New Convert

Thanks for the feedback!

I live in St. George, UT so I am only about 1 1/2 hours away from Vegas.  I will not be able to make it to the August concerts but I am definetly planning on being to the November and December shows so Joanie, if your offer is still standing, I would really appreciate a table with you and other fans.  My wife only likes pop and mellow jazz so making friends with Bonafide fans would be great.

I have been asked some questions about who was playing with KWS and JB and I apologize for not being better at knowing the names,

Playing with JB was a tall, blonde bass player from Hawaii, I have seen his picture but don't know his name.  The drummer was a very young man, with dark short hair.  The bass man and the drummer were VERY tight together and explosive in sound.  With KWS was the drummer from SRV and Double Trouble.  KWS bass man and drummer were very laid back, not much of a show and just didn't sound that tight.  I wondered if that was design in order to keep focus on KWS but what ever the reason, it just did not come together anywhere close to JB and company.  The vocals in the KWS show were pure crap.  Not at all blended and balanced.  KWS guitar pretty much drowned everyone else out.  It could have been a problem with the venue but definetely not the gut wrenching blues vocals that I heard either on KWS's albums or from JB.

Thanks again!

Re: New Convert

I was at the Deer Valley show (July 1st)... just to see Joe ... (KWS should be warming up for Joe.)
Joe Mark and Bogie totally rocked ! They are sounding very tight and although Joe mentioned
he was still suffering a bit from strep throat, he sounded awesome.
He didn't come out to the merchandise stall for a meet 'n greet (probably because of the strep) but Mark did,
and hung around signing stuff for about 20 minutes.
I'm sure Joe made a lot of new fans from this show.
