Topic: Anyone use GPS navigation?

Hey all,

I was thinking about getting a GPS unit for driving. I drive from MI to WI all the time, and sometimes it'd be nice to know where the nearest gas station or best restraunt would be. If anyone has any reccomendations, please let me know!  I was looking at the Garmin 340... i think...

Re: Anyone use GPS navigation?

I have the Garmin 340 and travel with it all the time. It's been a definite life saver many times. My only complaint with it is that if you miss a turn for whatever reason, it doesn't "recalculate" quick enough, but otherwise its great. I would absolutely recommend getting one if you do a lot of traveling by car.

Re: Anyone use GPS navigation?

We have the Lowrance IWAY 500C and absolutely love it.  It has a nice big screen compared to the Tom Tom or Garmin.  They have free updates on the web, very easy to use.  Lowrance has been into the GPS for sometime now, very big in the maritime market...  What I really like about it, that it always takes me to where Joe is playing!!!

Re: Anyone use GPS navigation?

Nice David, I know Lowrance makes a really good hunting handheld GPS, my buddy has one. I was looking at the TomTom or the Garmin. I dont want to spend tons of $ching$.

Re: Anyone use GPS navigation?

I think GPS is a wonderful invention!!!  From what my techie kids tell me, the one that came with my Chrysler minivan is inferior to the fancy smancy things out there...I still thinks its great.  My hubby drove us to Maryland recently with the GPS on and he's funny and a little strange sometimes, but had us all laughing at some of his conversations with the computer lady that speaks the directions!  lol lol lol

Angela:  You came to MD and you didn't post and let me, Jane & Cathy know so we could meet up?  :-(  We'll have to get together for a show sometime soon....I vaguely remember you & Anthony outside of NXNW and seeing the picture of the jellybean guitar.

Re: Anyone use GPS navigation?

Hey Carl,
Remember I asked you if you lived near Gibson Island, MD?  I went to a wedding there, which ended up having some very comic & coincidental moments.  My ex-boyfriend of 25 years ago, who I may have married had I not met my husband, is now best friends with Anthony's brother, who was the father of the groom.  It's a small world after all that these two characters ended up meeting a few years ago & are now best friends after a series of unfortunate & fortunate events, such as divorce, remarrying, relocating... lol lol We still have the jellybean guitar...its displayed as artwork on a guitar stand, it replicates a Fender strat; size, headstock, etc.

Re: Anyone use GPS navigation?

Hi Nick,

Didn't Tim "The Toolman' Taylor tell us real men don't need directions?????? Well if you do need a navigational device just buy one with a Lexus hybrid attached to it. Yeah, I wish too.

Re: Anyone use GPS navigation?

Angela:  Now that you mention it, yes.  Jane's probably closest to Gibson Island, but it woulda been nice to meet up and maybe catch a show somewhere.  We'll do it someday though, hopefully.

Re: Anyone use GPS navigation?

I went on a wilderness trip into the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area (Minnesota/Canadian Border) last year and contemplated buying a handheld GPS. We wound up navigating the old fashioned way: Maps and compass.
Next years trip will be in the same area, but a bit more travel and a bit more remote. I am currently looking for a handheld GPS device for that trip. Anyone with recommendations, I'd be glad to hear them. There are more choices than I can even begin to digest.
