Happy Samhain (sow-in)! Celtic New Year! The time when the veil between the living and the dead is it's thinest. By tradition, it is a time to honor the dead. Pumpkin carving is also ancient. The first were made in Ireland and were simple faces carved in turnips which could easily be carried if one needed to travel at night. They were designed to frighten any evil spirits that were blocking deceased loved ones from entering the Land of the Dead and to protect the living. Faces were carved as the Celts considered the head the most sacred part of the body.  Your forum hag, Cathy

Forgot...Halloween last year, I got to go to a Joe Bonamassa concert..Ever hear of him? Bogie had on a costume with a giant head that he had to keep turning so the eye holes were in the front. He never missed a beat! What a treat (no tricks)!    Cathy
