Topic: Gov' t Mule

Anybody from the forum into Gov't Mule? Any Left Coasters going to see them at the Fillmore in San Francisco on November 9th  and 10th?

Re: Gov' t Mule

I'm very much into Gov't Mule. They have become one of my very favorite bands.
And being that they are taper friendly and are one of the most torrented bands on the internet I have got a ton of their live shows. Of course I also have all of their officially released stuff also. Which is what we should all do when we grab these freebies on the net, we should support the artists who allow their shows to be taped and shared.
Joe B. is another taper friendly artist by the way

Re: Gov' t Mule

I imagine we"ll hear from Bob (tarus52) because he saw them with Grace Potter the other night...We'll also hear about the Hendrix show tonight. Lucky Man!   Cathy

Re: Gov' t Mule

I love Gov't Mule, but for some reason they never come to Houston...

Re: Gov' t Mule

Mule is the real deal!

If you look up Genius in Wikapedia, I am sure they would have a big pic of Warren.

Warren collaborated on ANDY.

Was able to party with the band last Rocktober in Portland.
Warren is a genuine nice guy to talk to. Deb was so moved by being in the same room with him, that she was tongue tied. In spite of that, we had a great convo with him, and got to thank him for working with Joe on ANDY. He said they get requests for If Heartaches were Nickels, but is not on the set list.

A mule show is much more than a concert, it is an experience.

The live shows get a lot of air play on my CD changer. Like Joe, they play best live and loud!

Will be traveling to Chicago when they play Portland this time, so will see if I can travel to get my Dose of Mule soon. Enjoy the shows in SF. Let us know how the new Mighty High tunes are.

Re: Gov' t Mule

Praise the lord there are other Mule fans out there, how many of you guys are in the uk. Not many I think. I was introduced to Gov't Mule a couple of years ago along with Widespread Panic. I wouldn't call Panic a blues band but there stuff is great and well worth a listen. If you get the chance get hold of a copy of Live at oak mountain, it's the only one I've been able to find over here, I'm gonna have to get the others from the web site. I was lucky enough to get hold of the deepest end dvd recently and have been blown away by how good Mule are Live, now if we could only get them to pop across the pond.... big_smile

Gov't mule show on sat. was amazing.Grace Potter started off the show with a great set,if you see the show at the Fillmore i guarantee you'll love this band. DC's own Ron Holloway played sax on 6 songs.Highlights were Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys with Ron Holloway on sax and Southern Man with Grace Potter joining Warren Haynes on lead vocal. This is a must show go see it you wont be disappointed!!!!!

"High and Mighty" is not a reggae album, there is one reggae song on the album "Unring the Bell", the rest of the album is typical Gov't Mule. The highlight of the album is the song "Brand New Angel" .

But "Mighty High" (just released) is reggae. I listen to my share of Bob Marley and do like a lot of reggae music, but I was disappointed in Mule's new release. Not that it's a paricularly bad CD, it's just not what I had hoped a new Mule record would be...

Re: Gov' t Mule

yeah i give them credit, it is quality reggae, it is just reggae remixes of old material though and not what i want from mule and i have no problem with experimentation or growth so im not throwing stones it just isnt for me.  and no man i wasnt confusing it with high and mighty though if you hadnt heard of the new one i could see why you thought as much

No reggae when i saw them last sat.

Re: Gov' t Mule

My bad, you are right I have not heard "Mighty High".
Ooops.
And if it is all reggae I don't think i'll bother with it. I like the classic Mule sound.

Re: Gov' t Mule

you can hear a lot of tracks on their myspace.  fans are not receiving it well is my general impression, apparently this has not afftected their live shows though, still classic mule so im still pumped

Re: Gov' t Mule

Tarus:  You missed "Play With Fire" and Al Green's "I'm A Ram" into the Beatles' "Love Me Do" done Jamaican-style in the Friday night set. I'm listening to it now on Mule Tracks wink  Reggae Soulshine is also a jammin' tune!  They played that at Warner last Sept.
