Topic: BUDDA Amplification

Calling all Bonamaniacs!

I am contemplating purchasing the BUDDA Superdrive 18 watt combo. Anyone out there bought/tried/heard one of these babies that can give me a bit of advice.

Cheers

I've got a SD 45...I've never played the 18 though. I love my amp!

Re: BUDDA Amplification

Hey Millouse,
I currently have a superdrive 45, but I've owned 2 SD30s (same circuit, with 2 less el84s).

If I was looking for a lower wattage amp, I would get the SD18.

2 channels, Great clean (no reverb), killer modified marshall overdrive in one low watt, reasonably priced (used on Ebay) package. Drive channel cleans up nicely with the volume knob, without losing much overall volume, so if you forget the foot pedal, or just want a grittier clean sound, you're all set.

Hope that helps,
Ken

Re: BUDDA Amplification

that 18 watt amp blows away many amps with more wattage. You can bet that when you buy a Budda, it will have BALLS

Re: BUDDA Amplification

From my screen name, you can probably guess what I think of the Budda amps!

I play a couple of the older Twinmaster styled amps. GREAT rock n roll tones. It's all in there.

They can sound kind of "boxy" on their own. But, they sit perfectly in a mix, or band setting. I run into the low gain input, and control the degree of OD with my picking and guitar's volume knob. Very responsive amps, that will push you to get better.

The 30 watter isn't that much louder. But, it's thicker and more harmonically rich.

Let us know how you like it.

Early 80's 1957 U.S. Vintage Reissue Stratocaster (Surf Green)-Warmouth Soloist  Pearly Gates Neck, Pearly Gates Bridge- Larrivee D-03 (Mahogany/ Spruce)
Carmen Ghia Head- Marshall 112 Cab W/G12H 30  or  Custom 4 X 6v6 Head  or  Budda Twinmaster Plus Head-Traynor 212 Cab w/Eminence Texas Heats.

Re: BUDDA Amplification

Guys

After all that I ended up buying a MESA 5:25 Express. It suits my needs perfectly. It is flexible in terms of tone and volume and most importantly didn't break my budget. Everything from clean through crunch to high gain with a nice spring reverb.

Cool! I haven't tried one yet. But, I bet they're nice.

Would you compae it's tones to any other amps?

Hi Budda

Yep they are nice alrighty. And these little buggers can be as loud as hell if that's what is required. I am still like a kid at Christmas at the moment but as I settle down with it I'll let you know how it compares to others.

I'm off as it's on standby waiting for me!

Re: BUDDA Amplification

Hey guys just turned the amp off for the night. This is one versatile little beast of a box. The clean channel has masses of headroom on the 5 watt class A setting. The blues setting with the reverb on reminds me of Joe. My son loves the burn channel which suits his metal tastes but with a classier edge. You can tell it is a high quality amp as it really does amplify the tone of my guitar( a PRS 24 custom 10 top 20th anniversary model)

Messrs MESA I thank you.

Peace and Jam

Re: BUDDA Amplification

Millhouse,
I've always wanted to hear how that Mesa 5:25 sounded..the sole Mesa dealer here in Honolulu never seems to have one in stock sad  I posted a bit late, tho as I own the Budda Superdrive 18 combo--one HECK of an amp I must say, and very loud for 18 watts!

Budda, will you folks start building amps with reverb in them? big_smile

Re: BUDDA Amplification

They used to make an amp called the Verbmaster. Basically a Twinmaster, with reverb. Keep an eye out for one.

Seriously, those older series amps are incredible.

Hey Jamm

It's a pity they don't stock the 5:25 in Honolulu as it is a belter of an amp. It has the the perfect combination of tones as I am beginning to find out. The more I play the more I want to play!
