Topic: JDAWG our friend!

Howdy yall, I know John is going to be pissed off at me! ( hey bud, I cant help myself, just want to send some love your way ) But I felt the need to share whats going on in the bay area today. Johns friends ( the man knows EVERYONE! it seems ) are throwing a huge party for him at a club. Musicians, live music, some of the bay areas most important people that were instrumental in bringing rocknroll to Northern Calif. for decades are showing up.

Why you ask? Well if you dont follow the forum closely, heres the reason. John has cancer....... thats right I said the dreaded word. He is going through some very tough times right now, as I witnessed on the way to the show in S.F. the other night.

Debbie and I are heading out in a few minutes to attend. I'm bringing a camera with me ( it's nothing like yours Rhonda, sorry ) to snap some photos. If it's ok with you folks, I'd like to put a few on here to share.

P.S.....I got a quick story for you ( Roy, I didnt lose my "Shredism", just had to give it a nap for awhile...lol )

After the show in S.F. I'm driving the shredvan back from the city, I got John and Mary with me. John's ask " hey shred, you wanna stop by the bar for a drink? " Now I'm sober as a judge, and in a great mood. " hell yes, lets do it". We get to this bar and there's a good crowd for a weekday. I'm thinking...hmm..my kind of people here, should be cool! Geno, Johns friend buys a round, and there's a live band playing some blues. John yells to me at the end of the bar " he's pretty good huh!" as he rolls his eyes. We just got in from seeing Joe Bonamassa play, aint no way anyone is going to top that! We hear the last round call as I'm killing another beer. Now the DAWG has to go and f**k with my head...... " hey shred you got that gum, the cops are outside waitng for us to leave", and the weener didnt even smile when he said it, so my dumb **** believes him. We left and there were no cops out there, he was just funnin me! But we did pass one on the way outta town and it's 2:10 am, he's tailgaing some poor smuck, you KNOW that guy got pulled over. Anyways, I made it home at 3:30 in the morning. I'm going to have to get the Dawg back for raising my blood pressure like that..LOL

Hey All,
     There is a lot of goodness & love to be had on this forum from a lot of "good-hearted"
friends.  There is something to be said for the power of the mind, I don't think it is restricted by  the miles between us.  Where two or more gather......and there's a heck of a lot more than two here.  I have always admired J Dawg's upbeat banter on the pages....ya' can't keep a good man down.  Sending the "luv" from Iowa and adding J Dawg to my talk to God list.

Hello, just got in the door. Got there at 1 oclock, and there were about 20 peeps there. The place is about the size of a 2 car garage with a small room in the back where the food was. John was busy running around trying to make sure everyone is going to be comfortable with a full belly of food too! Deb and I had some food to eat, and there was a ton more coming as his buds are BBQ ing lots. One of Johns friends trys to get him to sit down and relax, he just blows her off. I asked John if i could get a quick pix with him, he wanted to wait, but let us anyways. Good thing too, when we left at 5 ish there was at least 100 plus, and it was LOUD! The band started playing while Deb and I were walking the street, trying to digest some great food. When the band was in between songs, Paul ( great guitar player and voice ) the band leader calls for the mayor " hey wheres the mayor at, wheres John?" I went outside and grabbed him " paul's calling you, get in here". John gets on the mic. and thanks everyone for coming, the bar, you name it. He said something that got everyones attention........"this is one battle I cant afford to lose".

I got to apologize to Cathy Siler and Jane Hall, they both called my cell phone to talk to John and wish him the best, but I didnt feel it vibrate in my pocket and was already driving home before I realized they left a message for him. I'll talk to him tonight sometime, there were more people coming too, so i dont know when the party will end. I got just a few pictures, wish I had taken more when John was available, but "the mayor" was working the room. I'll put the pictures on my e-mail list of forum peeps, maybe then one of you can put them on the forum ( Jeff, can you help me out again, you know what a dum dum I am on this computer! )

Thanks for reading this forum friends, I know John will appreciate it after he rips me " a new one"!

Hi Shred,
I guess I haven't been following the forum closely because I did not know about JDawg's illness.  Gosh, I am really choked up.  JDawg is my first real forum pal.  Back in May, I posted I would be in California and to make a long story short, after a few emails, we met up at Joe's show in San Luis Obispo.  I gotta tell you, This is one stand up guy.  We talked for a little while before the show.  He came over during the show and gave my friend's son Travis some guitar pics. He came over after the show to talk to me and make sure I got a minute with Joe.  It doesn't take long to figure out this guy loves people, loves music and loves life. 

John,  If you're reading this, Ken and I are praying for you.  You see, you have to get better.  I told you we would meet you a another show and I wasn't kidding.

Wait I'm a little veclempt!! talk amongst yourselves, here's a topic, redundency: the marijuana initiative??? or however Linda Richmond aka Mike Meyers would have put it. OK Shred thanks for lettin' the cat outta the bag. I'm gonna tell this story one more time after reassurring close to 200 friends yesterday that failure is not an option. Around the 4th of July a lump developed on the side of my neck and sent me in a panic to my doctor who immediately sent me to a specialist and the poking and probing commenced. After a battery of tests, scans, and biopsies, it was determined I have a primary occult head/neck cancer and very luckily not attached to anything other than lymph node, but not a lymphoma. A full PET scan proved nothing has spread and my oncologist said if I gave this a stage it'd be half way to a 1. Needless to say in this situation albeit cancer that's very good news.Last Mon. I began a course of treatment consisting of 5 weeks of radiation on the neck and 3 chemotherapy treatments, anybody who's been through one knows I'm lucky to only have to endure 3 of them. Well that's it for now as it's comin' up on 6:30 and I have to drag one of my oldest friends outta the spare  bedroom and get his **** on the road to Tahoe. I have a hard time feelin' any sympathy for Joe on these trips since he's here from his home just off the golf course @ Princeville in Kauai after he spent the weekend in Aptos, Ca. (Santa Cruz area) at his folks place and then has to spend a week on the Truckee River just outside Squaw Valley at the crib we built for the family back in the late 70's. I'd be there myself if it weren't for all these doctors appts. That's ALL FOLKS!!!   Susan don't worry your pretty little head about this thang, the J Dawg is in full attack, cause there's SO MANY ROADS!!!

jdawg-take care of yourself!  Finding a lump is a really scary thing...sounds like you got things under control.  Continued good luck with the treatment.

Hi Dawg - Ken and I wish you the best - sounds like you caught this very early and that's
most important.  Nothing has spread and you are not even up to stage 1 - so Jaci MD says

Good reminder that cancer is a disease, not a death sentence as was the case in the past. Question for Shred..When I called your cell phone it said "to send a fax"..Where does that print out? I have a visual that involves a ticker tape that's funny but not very comfortable!!! Sister Cate

Jdawg, the important thing is to keep your spirits up, which is exactly what you are doing! You are in my thoughts and prayers, hope the treatment goes well, and as Rocket says "keep the faith." Peace.

Hey Michael..Best stop in Maryland 1st to rent that motorhome and get Jane and me!! You'll need me to be the designated driver. I've done cross country more than once so no problem. And, I know how to make wicked brownies!!! Can't wait!!  Cathy

Funny you mentioned this Cathy, as you recall as we all spoke we had just got seated at the restaraunt and as you and nurse Murph were chatting I see Shred comin' from the men's room. I start to laugh as I think it appears Shred has a strip of TP stuck to his foot, but as I look closer I realize it's comin' right over his belt on his posterior and wonder in amazement, THAT"S GOTTA CHAIFE!!! You know the Shredster, that boy is fulla tricks!!!

Depending on your definition of "wicked" Nurse Cathy, a good friend who perfomed at Dawgstock yesterday dropped off some medicinal specimens that would definitely fall under the wicked category. Have you ever used brownie ingredients that come with names such as Mango, Luka Haze, or Nepalese Kush????? A guys gotta maintain an appetite during treatment after all. Gotta love those musicians!!!

Dawg, that's funny because my organic gardeners always "name" my ingredients..Blueberry, Dog sh*t, Kenny..to name a few....Call it what you want, as long as it works!!!!!
