Topic: Amazon Reviews

Just looked at the Amazon page for Sloe Gin.  Reviews at the bottom are posted under two categories, "Most Helpful" (the prominent left column) and "Most Recent" (right column).

The "Most Helpful" reviews get top billing by customer votes:  once you open the review, at the bottom, you'll see "Comment | Was this review helpful to you?  Yes No "

Currently, the top "Most Helpful" review was posted on August 25, after just how many listens to the album?  Only 34 people have reviewed the album in total.   Clearly, anyone can post a review - regardless of musical knowledge or taste.  Some "reviewers" seem to enjoy seeing their comments on-line and have an opinion about everything.  If YOU have an opinion about a review already posted or about this album, why not express yourself!?!

Re: Amazon Reviews

Personally speaking,  I would like to thank Joe for reading the Amazon reviews and for
asking our opinions here on the forum.  Just remember that whether or not the reviewer
has musical knowledge, they like what they like, period.  As good as lets say The
Eagles, CSN&Y, BB King, The Beatles are, I don't listen to their music.  I like The Stones,
Aerosmith, SRV, Hendrix, Mahagony Rush.  And I don't think that after listening to music
for over 40 years that this is going to change.  Thankfully there is music out there for
everyone's tastes.  Every musician has to be happy with what they do.
Anyway, thanks Joe for caring.

Re: Amazon Reviews

Posted mine on the Amazon.co.uk site some time ago. It's a shame that Amazon don't show the reviews from both websites on either site....if that makes sense?

Re: Amazon Reviews

38 as of this moment.  Everybody should go and r-e-a-d all the reviews, hit the helpful or not button!!! Don't hit NOT just because it ain't 5 star rated! R-e-a-d the review.  Then tell 'em your thoughts if you feel the need.  Nice job by Susan, Roy, and other recent additions!  If YOU can put thoughts down that you think may be helpful, not necessarily just total glee and delight (but ok if you feel the urge).  Keep in mind someone who is NOT YET a fan may depend on something concrete to make a decision on.

Re: Amazon Reviews

In addition to adding comments to any review, you also may read others' comments and answer if they add to the discussion or not!  Get in there! Tag team, you're it!

Re: Amazon Reviews

i dont really trust the most helpful feature.  i like the idea but it normally amounts to fans getting on there and saying negative reviews arent helpful and positive ones are.  if the negative review has some foundation it is fine.  ie, this album sucks is not helpful, but really neither is, this album is so great you must buy it.  however the latter will get more yes this was helpful than no this wasnt helpfuls

Re: Amazon Reviews

I read the reviews and don't feel the one's being called "negative" were that bad. It should be no surprise that not all Joe fans are going to love "Sloe Gin". Nobody says it's an awful CD, just not what they expected. When the dust settles, there will be those that consider this his best and those who don't. The Mother Hen in me always wants to protect those I care about from any "hurt". That kind of knee jerk response isn't really helpful. I can't post a review because I'm not sure what I could add at this time....Cathy
