Topic: great drummin

Went to see carl palmer last night not knowing what to expect. Just remembering him in ELP and also Aisia. Well much to my suprise the show was awsom, and i'm still thinking what I would have missed if I decided not to go. I took up the drums last Sept. because of Kenny Kramme, I have played the guitar for years before that but feel more connected to the drums. If you get a chance to see carl do so, you wont be sorry you did!

Re: great drummin

Which is harder to play? The drums or the guitar?

Blues ain't nothin' but a good woman gone bad.

Re: great drummin

By chance (a friend of a friend cancelled at the last minute) I had the opportunity to see the Carl Palmer Band at a fairly intimate venue outside Washington DC about 2 weeks ago.  Being a huge Emerson, Lake & Palmer fan, I really didn't know what to think when I checked on his website and found he was touring with only a guitar and a bass player.  The two stand-out things to me about ELP were Emerson's keyboards and Lake's vocals.  Decided to go anyway...I honestly wasn't knocked out by the show in general, though Palmer's drumming was pretty amazing, though loud (I was about 15 feet from him).  The kid playing guitar (looked about 14) played pretty much nothing but Vai/Satriani sweep picking stuff...which is okay but doesn't replace Keith Emerson's amazing keyboard/organ playing, IMHO.

I'd say it's definitely worth seeing if you're a drummer...if you're an ELP fan...you might want to pass.  Just my $0.02.

Yes I went to see the drummin aspect and was impressed with what I saw. The youngsters were good but Carl is so far above what they can do, but don't get me wrong they were good. ELP was at the first concert I went to in 1975 and they were great of course but I can't knock what I seen last night.

Re: great drummin

Carl Palmer had a flat next door to my mates in Kensington in the early 70's.
banged the wall one night telling us to shut up when we were having a laugh with some guitars & a sax.
My mates said we'd better do what he said as hes a bloody big drummer.
How could he complain about noise after banging a drumkit for a living.
After all what do they call a guy who hangs aroud with musicians?
A drummer.
