Re: Summer 2018 Country and Western Tour Setlist?

The Dylan comment was a joke. I tried using a happy face emoji to emphasize that but it didn't appear in my reply. When Dylan first came on the scene, I was too young to listen to him and as a few years passed I was too unhip and unsophisticated to appreciate him. But I have seen him live  and it was definitely in my top 5 of all time with Neil Young being #1. Sorry, Joe.

Emojis have to be typed in here the old fasioned way. See the “smilies” menu at top right (visible when posting) for the syntax on this dinosaur. tongue You can use the “preview reply” button to see if you got it right before posting. This sucker creaks along on a DOS shell, if you remember such things.
I thought the Dylan reference was appropriate and timely btw. Keep em coming.

No offense intended to you.  It WAS a very strong agonizing reaction from those who thought the rules of folk music were locked in place.  I just wanted to clarify that folk music survived the “nuclear fallout.”  Thanks for inspiring me to wordy action! wink

Re: Summer 2018 Country and Western Tour Setlist?

I'm watching with interest how this country music tribute will be received, since I'm in Colorado and that concert is scheduled to be the country tribute.  I've chosen to pass on it and see someone else at Red Rocks, playing the blues.  Joe collects musical styles just like he collects guitars, and that's absolutely cool, but Joe just isn't on my list of country music artists that I want to see.
I kind of feel like he's made Red Rocks his tribute venue, and this one just doesn't resonate with me, although I'm sure it will be entertaining for those who go.  Each  of the three tribute concerts I went to contributed great things to Joe's book of work. Boogie with Stu, for example.  But I really hope next year Joe's Red Rocks concert will be mostly Joe.  It's kind of going to be hard to miss out on this year's concert, can't wait to see what he comes up with next year, new and old.

Educated guess but I would be willing to bet this will be the set list at Red Rocks https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/joe-bona … b75f4.html

Re: Summer 2018 Country and Western Tour Setlist?

"The limited run of 11 summer shows, which kicked off in San Diego July 26 and ends Aug. 11 in the heart of Nashville, has been advertised as Bonamassa’s blues-rock tribute to the country greats. But after one show, Bonamassa said he opted to go another route.
“We put the country thing on hiatus and we’re going to revisit that at a different time at a different type of venue,” Bonamassa said from San Jose, California. “We only did one country show and figured out that nobody was really in on the joke. We found out that there was some confusion on what kind of show we were going to play, so we’ve now been doing our blues-rock show. "

Re: Summer 2018 Country and Western Tour Setlist?

Wasn't the Nashville shows supposed to be taped for CD/DVD/Blu Ray release?  Since the country parts have been put on hiatus, is Joe no longer recording at the Ryman?

Re: Summer 2018 Country and Western Tour Setlist?

I have "questioned" Joe's direction of song choices of late and often not popular songs,,, driving the path less driven.

But to be beaten so badly they have to change the show after 1 gig...
Wow, sad it came to that.

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

Re: Summer 2018 Country and Western Tour Setlist?

Rats, I would have bought the best tickets I could for Red Rocks if I'd known Joe was going to play mostly blues with a seasoning of country instead of a tribute to Willie Nelson & friends.  Now the show is 3 days away and although I'd still go, I already have other plans.  Oh well, I do think Joe made the right choice in the end, a n artist needs his fans, but maybe it would have gone a lot better if the tribute setlist hadn't caught so many by surprise.  I do my homework, so I was aware, but I actually emailed our public TV station to tell them they needed to make it clear to people they were coming to a country music show.
Anyway, love Joe and cant wait til next year to see him live at Red Rocks again.  Still waiting to hear "I don't live anywhere" under the Colorado skies!

Re: Summer 2018 Country and Western Tour Setlist?

I admire the "themed" tours he's been doing since 2013 or so (I think Tour De Force was he first) but I've always wondered how it keeps coming up with ideas.... Really hoping they still do the Country thing in Nashville and record it

Thank you Gr8ful Fred for the link. Great review and pictures.

Re: Summer 2018 Country and Western Tour Setlist?

When I first saw that Joe was playing the Ryman and playing a country music tribute show, it took a few minutes to digest.
I’ve listened to country music on occasion and like some of it, but it has never been a part of my music catalog.
Then the thought came to my head: Joe’s playing a tribute to the country greats AT THE RYMAN THEATER!!! I gotta see this.
I snagged tickets and spent way too much money on them. I made flight and hotel reservations. I put aside cash for cabs, meals, drinks and miscellaneous.
I was excited. Now I hear this.
Frankly, I’m a little pissed off right now.
This thing has been steered off the tracks by a bunch of people that evidently don’t know how to read. It seemed very clear to me when I bought tickets that this was a country music tribute. Now, apparently, it’s not.
I will always be excited to see a live Joe show, but there will likely be some disappointment while I wonder what could (should) have been.

I still hold out hope that Saturday night’s show will go on as Joe originally intended.
