I'll play:

Electrics:

Fender American Original 60s Stratocaster, all stock except pickguard (swapped out for Tortoiseshell) and springs (only came with 3 and I like 5, so a set of vintage accurate spec springs from Mark Foley.

Fender American Vintage 52 Telecaster retro-fitted with a set of Mark Foley blackguard pickups (neck pickup has longer pole pieces for increased clarity).

Gibson Les Paul Traditional (2016 spec) which has had new hardware (Faber stoptail and ABR bridge conversion), Bareknuckle pickups (The Mule bridge, Stormy Monday neck) and BKP pots with vintage 59 style wiring.

Just switched to using Curt Mangan Matt Schofield signature strings (because they were the gauges I used already, not because Matt's name was on them).

Acoustic:

Sigma SOM-28H - basically Sigma's take on the Martin OM28 - fitted with Fishman pickup and preamp system.

Amp:

Fender ML212 Deville
Marshall 1936 cabinet fitted with a pair of WGS ET90's
Clearsonic baffle

Will be getting a Plexi flavoured amp around Christmas time, either a Ceriatone clone or a Victory Sheriff 44 (based on its use on That Pedal Show)

Dunlop Bonamassa Wah
Boss TU3
Fulltone Supa Trem
Ceriatone Centura (Blue Bamboo 1 off)
Keeley Red Dirt
Ibanez Mini Tubescreamer
Keeley D&M Drive

Re: Forum members guitar collection and playing rigs

Amps: Fender JB Twin (main), Fuchs ODS 50 (for sale), Bartel Starwood, Kendrick Tweed bassman (for sale), assorted small fenders.

Guitars: PRS McCarty 954 (Main), 1965 Fender Strat all original (Main 2); 1969 Fender Strat; Fender CS 1969 Strat; Fender CS 1957 Strat; Gibson JB Les Paul Goldtop; Gibson JB Les Paul Tomato Soup Burst; original year on Peavey Wolfgang; Fender MIM Tele (that rips).

Pedals: Analogman KOT, POT, Bad Bob & NTK 275; Way Huge Overrated Special & Russian Pickle (mini); Caitlinbread Bell Epoch; Ibanez HW 808, Lovepedal zendrive, Dunlop (Red) germanium mini Hendrix fuzz, Vox 894 HW wah, MXR Mini Chorus.  Only put a couple of these on the board at a time depending on amps being used, songs and mood.

The best sound I have is the PRS into the JB Twin with a little overdrive & Boost with a touch of chorus and the Epoch on for preamp.  The Bartels does a lot of great tones but the 2 12" speakers on the JB simply own a room.

Fender CS JB 55 Tele, PRS McCarty 594, Gibson JB Goldtop LP, Gibson JB Tomato Soup LP, 1969 Fender Stratocaster, 1965 Fender Stratocaster, Fender CS 1969 Strat and a 1980s Gibson Custom LP lite. Fender JB Twin, Fender Hand Wire Vibroverb reissue, Kendrick 59 Bassman Handwired clone, Victory tweed HP twin.

Re: Forum members guitar collection and playing rigs

I've paired down a lot.  I used to have 8-9 electrics and a couple of acoustics, a tricone, etc.  Too much maintenance, not enough play time, I liked them all but didn't love them.  I fell in love with a Suhr and spent the next few years buying, selling and trading guitars to try to fill the hole, and figure out what I really like in a guitar.  Eventually ended up getting rid of most of my collection to get one.  Worth it.  When I see a new guitar I think "would I play it, or would I just keep playing the Suhr?"  That usually kills the GAS.

Guitars/Basses:
#1 - Suhr archtop standard - I had been GASing for this type guitar for many years, and sold most of my collection to finally get it.  Totally worth it.  Semi-hollow mahogany guitar in a strat body w/ strat scale-length, HH, ss frets, killer 2-point trem.  It's a HH strat with a bit of semi-hollow warmth and snap.  Doesn't sound like a 335, but it's also not just a HH strat.  Amazing guitar all around.

#2 - JW Van custom-built HSS S-Style.  Hardtail strat-style guitar w/ a thinner mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood FB, ss frets, etc. It's a great guitar, not as nice as the Suhr, but a very good complement as they sound completely different.

Epiphone Masterbilt Zenith archtop acoustic - great little acoustic jazz box, my newest guitar and I love it.  For a relatively inexpensive import it plays wonderfully, sounds great, looks awesome.  I got away from acoustic for a long time but the last year or so I've been playing a lot more and this suits my style well.

90s Fender USA Precision bass - nothing fancy, but gets the job done every time.

Amps:
Dr. Z MAZ 38 Studio Deluxe I've had for 15+ years.  Sounds great, built like a tank.  As a backup and practice rig I have a tech 21 FlyRig 5 and Power Engine 60.  That's a really good, cheap, light unit.  Love it for what it is. It doesn't sparkle like the Dr. Z but it gets some nice OD and is super convenient.

Pedals:
EHX Octave Multiplexer -> Carl Martin Opto-Compressor -> Fulltone Fulldrive 2 -> EHX Mel9 (new addition) -> MXR Badass '78 distortion -> Digitech DD-3 Delay -> TC Ditto Looper.  I have a few other pedals in drawers, but that's the current board.

Wampler Euphoria

As a bonus, anyone up for a pedal swapping? wink

Re: Forum members guitar collection and playing rigs

My main practice and small gig rig is pretty basic.  The amp is a solid-state "Tech 21 Trademark 60", with an added "Power Engine" amp/cab if necessary for more sonic spread or for stereo.  The "Fender" channel is awesome and pedal friendly when set to clean.

Pedals are a Mooer "E-Lady" flanger, Barber "Tone Press" comp, a Friedman "Dirty Shirley" OD, and a Wampler "Ethereal" delay/'verb.  I also use a Valeton EP-1 volume/wah.

The "Dirty Shirley" kicked my long-standing OCD off the board.  If you haven't tried one, you should!

If I want to move more air and don't mind dragging it around I go to a four hole '76 Marshall JMP MKII w/EL34s and '72 4x12 with greenbacks.

Playing Amos Jr. a lot lately, along with a killer Nash T-52 super heavy relic with Lollars.

Simple, a combination of high-end and cheap stuff, but it all works.

Re: Forum members guitar collection and playing rigs

I was never any good as a player, but back in 2010 I decided I needed a new hobby, so I went back to playing after not touching an instrument for more than a quarter of a century. The pain in my hands is now bad enough that I rarely play at all, but the collection I built up before that happened gave me great pleasure, and still does when I feel well enough to pick up one of my girls...

Guitars:

  • Fender Classic Player Baja Telecaster (butterscotch, my No. 1)

  • Epiphone Joe Bonamassa Goldtop (first run)

  • Fender Jimmie Vaughan Tex-Mex Stratocaster (Olympic White)

  • Hanson Cigno (Bigsby version, burgundy)

  • Ernie Ball Music Man 25th Anniversary (tremolo version, the guitar Joe is holding in my avatar pic)

  • Epiphone 1958 Korina Flying V

  • Ovation Celebrity CC24 (koa top)

  • Alvarez Yairi WY-1TS

Amplifiers:

  • Marshall Class 5

  • Vox AC15C1

  • Vox VT20+

  • Fender Mustang I V2

Pedals:

  • Visual Sound Comp 66, Wampler Black '65, Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive, Fulltone PlimSoul, Jacques Meistersinger Chorus, Wampler Faux Tape Echo (1st generation), BBE Sonic Stomp

  • Dunlop JB Fuzz Face (1st run), Dunlop JB Cry Baby, Boss DD-3, Fulltone Supa-Trem, Way Huge Pork Loin, Way Huge Green Rhino

The goldtop, the Tele, the Cigno, and the Yairi all bear Joe's autograph, and after the meet & greet in Omaha next week the Strat and the V will as well...as for the EBMM, you can read THAT story here: http://tinyurl.com/ydape2jw

I could recommend a very good DVD instructional,  the instructor lives in Nashville has a large "cult" following and is active with all his world wide students if you ever want to learn to play a nice guitar

You have THAT guitar!?!! OK so as useless as this might sound, given the others that want it,  I'd like to throw my hat into the ring if it ever goes up for sale. All you need now Jane is a slide. It doesn't matter what you sound like when you are learning. Just follow the Sonny Landreth philosophy and 'electrify the air'.
