Topic: Josh Smith w/Greg Koch, Nick Moss, Pete Galanis, Davy Knowes, etc

Josh is in Chicago this week sitting in with a bunch of his friends and we were very fortunate to catch the first 2 shows. At the first one he and Greg Koch were playing with Nick Moss and his band. This was probably the best show we have seen in recent times. To see Josh and Greg together was beyond anything I've witnessed before. These two are on just a whole different level of playing. I think this was some of the best playing I have witnessed from Josh. The solos especially on "Serves Me Right To Suffer" and "Drowning On Dry Land" were seriously otherwordly. If you don't look at anything else, please just look at those songs. It was 2 hours and 20 minutes of absolute guitar heaven. Nick also invited Guy King up to play a song and Dave Specter & Pete Galanis also sat in for a song. I had been dying to see Greg for a while now, but he never is in our area. So glad we finally got the chance. I wish Joe would put him on the cruise especially since he's played with Joe a number of times. He would be a stellar addition to the lineup. Plus he is funny as hell too. The show started off with Nick Moss playing 3 songs with his own band, then he stepped aside and Josh & Greg came up for a few. Then Nick came back and played with both of them and then Guy King was invited up at the end. Nick Moss wrote a very extensive thing on facebook after this show talking of how he had been in a rut lately and how witnessing Josh and Greg's playing that night had truly inspired him to want to do more with his own playing.

The other show we saw with Josh was one he played at with his friend Pete Galanis and Dave Herrero. Earlier that day we were with both Josh and Davy Knowles at the Chicago Music Exchange and Josh invited Davy to sit in on a few songs that night. It was great to see Josh and Davy play together. Been hoping to see this happen for quite some time. Davy sat in on 3 songs, two of Josh's where they had a great back and forth going and then Davy sang one of his own. Josh had an incredible solo on this to the point that when he was done Davy said, "Can I just say how frightening it is to stand next to this man and play guitar". Later on, Davy commented to us that Josh was the finest guitarist he had ever seen live. Have to say that Josh's playing at the two shows we saw there in Chicago was the best playing I had ever seen from Josh.
