Topic: Guitar effect on I Know Where I Belong at Borderline

Hi guys

So I was listening, for the first time is ages, to the Tour de Force album from The Borderline and can't get my head around what effect Joe is using on I Know Where I Belong.

Is it a rotary speaker effect or something else? (And if anyone knows which specific effect Joe used, even better!!)

Cheers all.

Yes, it sounds a lot like a rotary effect. Not sure if Joe carried a real cabinet or used a pedal. I personally would go for a Strymon Lex or Neo Instruments Ventilator.

Joe used Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere in that time, but the original track was recorded using Korg G4. I'm seeing on his Instagram that he's back to using Korg G4 again.

Could have fooled me. You guys have good ears! All this time I thought he was just using a chorus pedal with a short vibrato setting. Well done you guys.

Re: Guitar effect on I Know Where I Belong at Borderline

Both units the H&k and the Korg are way too big, I think. I would opt for a smaller device, definitively.

I can get a similar effect using tc electronics shaker mini

Not to nay say, but i think the unit on that video is the Korg and not the HK. Only reason I say that is because I swear I saw it on the documentary about JB where Kevin Shirley asks "what is that?" I could be totally wrong.

For the record, both are great units and part of the old pedal arsenal for JB in different eras.

Re: Guitar effect on I Know Where I Belong at Borderline

Cheers guys. Both the pedals suggested are too pricey for me to buy for an effect I probably wouldn't use that often.

Tried out a Electro Harmonix Lester G today and going to try and find one of those second hand I think.

The Line6 MM4 does a good job for those on a budget, plus it is programmable, so you have a choice of 4 of your own presets...

Agreed. Sort of an industry standard and can be had for a good price!
