Re: who is going to the Hartford Conn Joe Show?

I am! Just saw the set list on Anton Fig's site. Should be a great show.

Re: who is going to the Hartford Conn Joe Show?

I'm going too. So excited. It will be my second time seeing him. My first was three years ago last time he played at the Bushnell. One of the best nights of my life.

Last time I saw him here he had walked out on stage casually and looked to be checking his equipment before the show a for about a minute or two. I was so star stuck I didn't move.

This time I'm hoping to catch him doing that again and going up to him and saying a few words and hopefully getting an autograph and/or a selfie. Is this a thing. Has anyone done or seen someone do this before?

Man what an outro, I don't think I've every heard one even nearly that long or great. Loved every second.

Re: who is going to the Hartford Conn Joe Show?

As always, Joe was on fire last night at the Bushnell.  The audience was great too and displayed lots of appreciation for Joe and the band throughout the evening.

A few observations to share:
1.)  I understand that the Bushnell is an older theater but the seats were very tiny, uncomfortable, and offered very little leg room.  I can't imagine being seated for 2+ hours in that theater is a pleasant experience for most attendees.  Thankfully, my girlfriend and I had aisle seats and she let me sit in the seat on the aisle so I could at least stretch my legs at times.

2.)  Joe started right on time at 8PM so naturally there were a few late arrivals from those who aren't "in the know".  I didn't feel that the ushers were particularly helpful in getting people seated in a timely manner once the show started.  Many people were in the aisles trying to locate their seats with confused looks on their faces and often times there wasn't an usher around to assist them.  Even when an usher was with them, they too seemed confused at times as to where to seat people and there was a lot of shuffling around.  One couple near us ended up changing seats at least three times and at least twice they switched to a completely different row.  Not sure if it was their own fault, the fault of the ushers, or a little of both.  On the brighter side, everyone seemed to be settled by 8:30PM or so and were very appreciative of Joe and the band for the remainder of the set.

3.)  As someone who knows Joe's newer material, follows his tours, and has seen him live a few times over the last 2-3 years, I can appreciate that he changes up his setlists and offers fans something different with each tour.  That being said, I noticed quite a few people around me didn't seem to know many of the songs that he played last night.  Don't get me wrong, Joe always delivers with every live performance and I think almost everyone in attendance walked out last night more than satisfied with the show.  Yet I can't help but think that Joe's setlists would have greater appeal to both new/casual fans as well as longtime fans if perhaps he took out 2-3 covers and 1-2 newer songs and replaced them with a few of his hits/more recognizable songs like "Sloe Gin", "John Henry", "Mountain Time", "Dust Bowl", etc.  I'm personally not complaining that "Sloe Gin" and "John Henry" were left off the set this tour but they're also arguably his two most recognizable songs and ones that I'm sure many casual fans want to hear him play.  Even if Joe wants to give those two songs a rest, why not perform other hits from his back catalog like "Mountain Time" or "Dust Bowl" instead?  Just my two cents.

Re: who is going to the Hartford Conn Joe Show?

I could not agree more, while the playing was phenomenal, I miss certain songs that I feel are staples. In my humble opinion Sloe Gin and Ballad of John Henry should be givens. Would also not mind hearing Just got Paid or Woke up Dreaming. Don't get me wrong, it's all good, just some songs really deserve the recognition! I was in the mezz and did not have any problem with seating, but I have been on the floor at the Bushnell for other shows and the floor seats are crampy.

I was able to take some mediocre pictures with my crappy camera, so would love if anyone can share pictures from last nights show!

Re: who is going to the Hartford Conn Joe Show?

I agree, Bonafan.  The setlists over the last few tours just seem a bit too heavy on the covers and material from his last 1-2 albums.  Hoping that once Joe feels like he's really showcased the blues covers he's been performing over the last few tours, he starts to balance out his set a bit more between covers, newer material, and the classics/hits.

Re: who is going to the Hartford Conn Joe Show?

I was excited to see songs other than Sloe Gin and John Henry on the set list. They have been played at every show for years and years now. Nice to see him change it up and put some other songs in their place. Can't wait to hear How Many More Times again. Was one of my favorites from the summer shows.

Re: who is going to the Hartford Conn Joe Show?

I'll be seeing him for the first time Friday and I wouldn't have minded to see a few less from his cover shows show up in the set list, like Hidden Charms for one. His own material is strong and wouldn't have minded seeing BoD added in instead (edit: well it looks like he played it in Buffalo)

It's a double edge sword and there's no way he can please everyone. Just part of the game when you have a catalogue the size of his.

Yeah, I loved How Many More Times as well. As usual he put his unique Joe spin on it and really takes you on a journey. Jimmy would be proud!
