Topic: Toronto Nov 16th, 2016 pre-show Fan dinner and M&G

Some of us Bonaholics are getting together at The Old Spaghetti Factory(l'esplanade) before the show in Toronto. It is close to the Sony Center and we will get there around 5 - 5:30. If you want to join us for some fun BonaHype, please do so. Karen Filman has made a res. for 10 people and we are almost at that limit now, so if you are going to come, please let us know here and we can up the res.#
We had a great M&G before the show last time at The Tilted Kilt and want to do it again! Greg, Karen, Rick, Isabelle and myself (Alan) are looking forward to a great day.
Cheers,
   Alan Nabi

I'm in a dark blue stripped short sleeve shirt with a JB Guitar Pin on the front pocket.

Buzzy didn't say he was making the trip from the east coast.

Re: Toronto Nov 16th, 2016 pre-show Fan dinner and M&G

just got back to the office before heading home from the tail gate party at the Tilted Kilt.
great to see my bona-buddies for dinner and after show.
a late purchase with the ticket and ended up with the balcony.

different perspective up there being above the line array's

the sound in the Sony Centre was great.
I could hear the difference between each guitar and even the pickup used.
each musician had their place in the mix.. the girls wooooh on This Train.. and closer Hummingbird was great and clear.
Lee and the horns adding their fuzz.
at the start Joe's guitar was just above the mix and his vocals were a jump above that.

after the half way point the mix changed a bit.. Joe's vocals were still audible but were now surrounded by bass and the rest of the band.
guitar still sung through it all .

it was great hearing Joe's nerd-ness as he stated that the band night after night to back him up.. but he stopped in half sentence and said ... Well this is the second night of the tour.. so its the best band in the past 48 hours backing him up.

his introduction kept me chuckling

all too soon it's over..
now the wait for April to find out where he's playing next that's close by.

Re: Toronto Nov 16th, 2016 pre-show Fan dinner and M&G

Interested in your comment on the sound DougH. I was at the Kitchener show the night before - Left side, front row Mezzanine, and to be honest the sound was horrible all show. Joes Mic was frequently overpowered by the others especially the bass, and even his guitar sound should have been louder. When the music was quiet ( for a slow solo) I could hear quite a loud mains type hum. I wondered at the time whether it was the acoustics of the hall. Be interested to hear if others attending the show felt the same way. By the way, other than that the show was tremendous,  it's just that the poor sound quality took the edge off the evening.

Re: Toronto Nov 16th, 2016 pre-show Fan dinner and M&G

I wasn't on the floor in Toronto this time but Way near the top.
Not were I normally want to sit but was last minute choice.

I heard from Karen she thought Kitchener was really loud.
She was pretty much front row Toronto.
Be interesting if she could chime in on the overall volume of both shows.

Re: Toronto Nov 16th, 2016 pre-show Fan dinner and M&G

I was also at the Kitchener show. My wife & I were sitting front row first balcony and fairly central, great seats. I didn't actually hear the hum mentioned above but we both sometimes found it too loud ... it seemed like the PA speakers were on the verge of breaking up at times. I've actually noticed this to be a trend at all Joe's shows I've been to, it was the same way at Roy Thompson hall a few years ago. I don't mind loud but when it is so loud that it actually hurts your ears, it is TOO Loud!

Not a good thing in my opinion. It's gotten to the point where my wife says she will bring earplugs to any future shows.
