Topic: Cut number 7

I'm a little miffed at the bad language at the end of cut #7, You Left Nothin' but the Bill and the Blues". I was listening for the first time yesterday with my grandson, age 11, and this totally unnecessary language comes out after the song is over. In trying to register for this forum, I was even more surprised at the "RULES", page which forbids bad language. From now on, I have to be careful where I play this album. I'm really disappointed!

Is there any way I could download a clean version from iTunes?

I warned of this in my thread. It is a shocker because Joe spent so many years wanting to be "family-friendly". In recent years he has become lax.  Since it is in the last seconds maybe there is a way to edit it out ?? Sorry this happened to you.

Re: Cut number 7

I was surprised to hear it, but personally I like it there.  I think it adds.  It's blues ROCK, and I don't mind some edge.  It's not the worst thing in the world or over the top.  That said, I can totally see why you'd be surprised and i wouldn't listen to that song with my son (7).  Lesson learned, I guess.

If I get some time this weekend I can send you an edited mp3.

Re: Cut number 7

Sorry...I come at this from a different angle, not a family guy and I feel Joe should say and write whatever he wants in his songs. HE is the artist..HE should have that right. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. I like the less sanitized Joe...If he'd start swearing in the actual songs, they might seem more real. The Blues is about stuff going wrong and having a bad day, etc. Cursing actually works when you are using it for effect in these type of tunes. And, one more thing..I understand the family friendly argument, but when I go see Joe in concert, practically everyone there is 50 something, and very few kids . Joe's target audience has heard these words several times before. I don't think they're too offended.

Joe dropping some bombs in his live act is not that uncommon.

Yeah, I can see that would be upsetting if I had my 5 year old nephew listening with me. It used to be CD's came with language stickers on them, I guess we don't do that anymore.

Re: Cut number 7

That reminds me...A few years ago we were waiting for Joe at a meet and greet and we just happened to see him hanging around the venue lobby on his cell phone...All I can say he wasn't happy about something, and expletives were flying...I think someone broke a guitar in transit.

Re: Cut number 7

Man, I got to really be cranking it to even hear it clearly at the end. I about missed it and I was listening for it.

They still do parental advisory stickers I believe but I you have to have multiple usage of certain words to get. Just like a pg13 getting away with saying the big f word once in the movie.

Re: Cut number 7

The words don't offend me at all. They are only words, yet I know others have been bothered by it. Just recently received this comment on one of my videos:
"Joe has been my man for a long long time, but this video and another one has him on them using a bit of bathroom wall Language, and his mom and dad are in this audience, so I'm really hurt and disappointed a bit to know he uses that type of language at all, especially in front of his mom in the audience."

If you go to Joe's shows you will invariable hear him say it. He does it at almost every show we've been to. It is rock and roll it's not kid music and people have actually been using the word since the 15th century. On the album it can only be heard if the volume is cranked way up. Which one probably shouldn't do if you have small children anyway.

Re: Cut number 7

Honestly, I'm a bit amused at any adults that are offended by this language...we've all heard it before and should be able to take it for what it's worth, especially in small doses such as this.
That said, it's a different animal when you're talking about kids. If you're a parent or grandparent trying to teach your kids not to swear, this is tough to explain. Not sure how to avoid this other than previewing everything prior to playing it in front of the kiddies.

Re: Cut number 7

You guys crack me up. Do an advanced search and read your own answers to questions about the shows being family friendly. Yes, the times have changed, but folks have always been bringing their children to shows and to my memory, the first use of the F bomb was towards a security guy that was too aggressive with the fans.  As for the CD, all I'm saying is it would be nice to know because it is out of the norm for Joe. Thus, I put it in my review.

Re: Cut number 7

Please!!! I had to go back 3 times to hear what I thought I heard.  If your 11 year old is quick enough to pick that up the first time he has picked up a lot of other things also.  I had my two nephews in my house with the album on and I had every intention of skipping 7.  Of course I got busy and forgot.  It went right past and they never even noticed.  Let your nephew listen to what ever it is that11 year olds listen to these days and let adults listen to adult music.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Cut number 7

Try as you may, you will not be able to keep your children from hearing "the word"   It is all around them. Listen to kids conversations and it doesn't take long to realize they know lots of words.  Had I not read that Joe said the word I would never have noticed it either.
I guess I would have just said, "Oops! Joe let one slip."  Usually the less emphasis on something like this, kids just let it roll off their backs.
I have always thought it "tickles" Joe to say "the word." I will never forget Joe reciting the real words to Sloe Gin after the Elgin,IL show, which I believe was the first time he ever sang it...aaaahhh I digress...

My opinion: There are so many other real evils in the world to protect our kids from that the occasional slip from Joe is nada.....

Re: Cut number 7

Please don't misunderstand me. I don't have a problem with the use of the f word... The m...f word is a little crude. My other point is that it wasn't used to emphasize a lyric in a song. It is noticeable, spoken after the song was over as studio conversation. It was used for no purpose at a place where it could just as easily been edited out. Artistic license aside, I would have cheerfully paid double for a clean version. I have most of Joe's other albums and this is the first time he has done this. I'm not a prude, I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed because the audience should include the young as the RULES for this forum state.

Re: Cut number 7

my kids at that age had all the hip hop un  edited versions. There wasn't a practical way to stop them outside of not letting them have Acess to any music player.I guess  I just gave up on trying to filter it all.
I know someone who always bought the clean versions of CDs a few years back for their kids and they wouldn't play em.They always found a way to get the regular versions in some form or another.

Sorry I don't understand.  What have the RULES of this forum or any other for that matter, to do with an album on sale to the public?
