Topic: Well....AC/DC may be done as well
Apparently Brian's Doctor has told him he risks complete hearing loss if he does any more live shows...That's so Rock and Roll, but a little sad as well.

Sure is. If they go for another singer it has to be Jimmy Barnes.
Time to call it a day. If Angus wants to continue playing he should do so, but leave the band where it is. Bon was irreplaceable but they succeeded with Brian despite that. To change again at this stage seems a bit pointless I have to say. OK if they want to finish the tour then using different singers could be fun in the short term, but then pack it in I say and let the legacy stand.
- I saw AC/DC in ’78/79 and also when Brian came out and hit that bell in 1980, - he succeeded in replacing somebody who already was a legend, - but what both Bon and Brian had was the humility to spend most of their time at the back of the stage and let Angus do his thing. Sorry, but while Jimmy Barnes may have the voice but he certainly does not have the character to play second fiddle to the most entertaining guitarist to ever have taken to the stage, - I am talking not just about guitar ability but energy and pure watchability.
It’s over, time to move on, it was great whilst it lasted and it lasted longer than most. They need to be remembered for Let There Be Rock, Powerage, Back in Black and being the best live band ever.
After Bon died they managed a great album with Brian (Back in Black) but after that the album quality suffered and they've never really been the same since. Luckily, by that time they already had plenty of great tunes to fill a set, and Brian is a great Rock singer, but here it is 26 years later, Malcolm is gone and if Brian can't continue, this would be a good time for them to hang it up. They were always a great live band !
I think they should call it a day too but I imagine they have tour commitments to fill and have said they will return with a guest vocalist. To me that should be Jimmy Barnes.

Well that's a rockers way to go out!
Such a shame though.I know Pete Townsend has that glass cage thing years ago.Cant recall how his hearing is doing ?
As a person with real ear problems, I can understand. Years of surfing and water contact had my body generate bony growths in the ear canal necessitating surgery in my 40's. Both eardrums are now skin grafts with less response. The canals are a mass of scar tissue and invite infection which plagues me. A year on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier at war took its toll too. Now it is tinnitus.
I'm glad Joe plays loud.
God bless Brian for the years of timeless legendary music. May he retain his hearing. His art will live forever.

I could so see that, probably the best name that has come up to replace Brian yet....
I'm glad Joe plays loud.
Rick
- does he? - I do not think Joe plays loud when compared with the likes of AC/DC, Motorhead, Blackfoot, WASP, Saxon, Thin Lizzy, Def Leppard, Status Quo and other bands that I saw in the late 70’s, early 80’s.
My hearing was damaged by AC/DC, - I still have the tinnitus! These days gigs are quieter here in the UK, - in part I am sure due to the threat of legal action, but also because artists like Joe are playing through proper smaller amps that are now mic’d.
This article puts a new slant on it. Angus the dictator?

Angus wants to carry on for another 10 years and do a new album? Angus is a great showman no question but I struggle to understand his logic here. Is he sooo hard up that he needs the money? No, I'm sure not. He still wants to play. He can't let it go, but instead of leaving his comfort zone he just wants to go on doing what he always has done with a bunch of 'other people'. Thought he had a bit more class than that.

What is wrong with someone wanting to carry on doing something they love, as long as their health permits?
It is nothing to do with comfort zones, lack of 'class' or leaving things alone. It's just someone who wants to play guitar and is lucky enough that people want to see him do it.
I am nearly 10 years older than Angus and whilst no where near his abilities, still love playing guitar in front of people. I will do it until I drop.
Would be good to hear from Angus at some point.
- I guess we all want a band to live up to our romantic hope of them playing for the camaraderie as a bunch of mates, - but in reality AC/DC have always been about the 2 Young’s, and George who initially guided them until Mutt Lange took them off to another, more commercial level.
As I said above the band has always been the tool for Angus, - more so than any other band that I have seen. I count myself to have been extremely fortunate to have seen them in their most powerful guise with Bon, - and also with Brian a few rows from the front at Hammersmith Odeon, - but after that they shifted as a band to a money making stadium playing outfit. In saying that clearly Angus lives for the buzz of his stage time, - he goes into another zone so I can see why he would want to keep that going, - I also think that a lot of what he is doing is about Malcolm, - it cannot be easy emotionally.

Well, that will be the big question to answer won't it? It was or has been until now....ACDC. For 30 plus years the same 5 guys. Now it is Angus Youngs ACDC? THe tickets here last time were over 100 euros. Oversold and overcrowded, but 78000 invested in Hannover to see maybe the band for one last time. Malcolm wasn't there, nor Phil, but OK.
I am younger than Angus and I still love performing in front of people. The difference is you and I are not asking those people to cough up over 100 Euros for the privilege.
Lemmy wanted to go out like you, dropping on stage. But friends of mine that saw their (M-head) concert here in November and were bitterly disappointed. Short set, couldn't sing and it was just...bad. They would rather he had called it a day earlier, left them with great memories and 80 Euros better off.
Maybe Angus can sell it and still charge the top dollar he or his management may want. I would pay to see and hear him play guitar, but not fronting his own ACDC tribute band.
By the way.......my comment about class was intended to reference the way Johnson (allegedly) appears to have been treated but I see from my earlier post that it was easy to misconstrue - so apologies for that.

t.
I think it's always been the Young brothers band. Apparently their sister came up with the band name, so I think it's a bit unfair to call them a tribute band, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
People don't have to pay to see them, but I suspect they still will, just as people still pay to see the Who
Update...Brian feels "Kicked to the curb " by the band...so looks like we probably will get a "guest" vocalist for this tour at some point.
