Topic: Nathan P. Murphy's in Springfield, Missouri: June 12, 2006

Great show tonight, my first time seeing Joe. Everybody was right, I am floored, I don't know what to say. Joe is one of the nicest people I've met. He told me appreciated me putting the picture promoting You & Me on my sig at the KWS forum. He knew who I was. That is awesome, when your hero knows you. Gave me a free t-shirt. Who does that? I appreciate it deeply Joe. Thank you.

Oh, and don't think I didn't appreciate the t-shirt Joe. I thought I had left behind the one I bought, and you were throwing it to me. I had no idea it was another shirt when I got outside. This was the greatest moment of my life, musicall-speaking.

Oh, and add me to the club that sang the last line to Walk In My Shadow. I did it, Joe said, "That's awesome. That's one way to do it. Here's how I do it," and finished. That was wicked cool.

And Joe, just let BB King down easy when he finds out that Lucille's cheating on him with you.

Setlist, as far as I can remember it:

Taking the Hit
Walk In My Shadows
Blues Deluxe
Mountain Time
Bridge to Better Days
New Day Yesterday
So Many Roads
Miss You, Hate You (acoustic)
Woke Up Dreaming (acoustic)
The River
Burning Hell

Asking Around For You / Starship Trooper (yes it is Lucille)

Re: Nathan P. Murphy's in Springfield, Missouri: June 12, 2006

man i wanted to see joe again(saw him at blue springs,mo), i have to go to south mo to visit an elderly relative but i dont know if i can get away for the 2nd show at nathan murphys tomorrow...

all i can say is i echo everything you stated, though i saw joe years back on the 'new day yesterday tour' which was incredible, joe is maturing as a singer and songwriter (he's always had the chops since the bloodline days)...

i mentioned to joe my love of paul kossoff and joe stated koss may be his fav guitarist, joe seems to really have that likeability factor that koss had, that certain something that pulls you in while they are on stage something about their phrasing and vibrato..

there are lots of blues players around, many technically accomplished, but too many cant really feel the blues the way joe does, even less have the kind of chops joe has

Hey Deezer, you finally made it... That is great that you finally got to see Joe live and he did not disappoint.  He never does.  Free shirt, that's Joe for you, first class kinda guy.   Thanks for posting the setlist too.

Re: Nathan P. Murphy's in Springfield, Missouri: June 12, 2006

I was told last night that the second show has been canceled. Something about they're going to Fort Wayne.

Favorite live song? Definitely The River. But then again, that's my favorite song by him period. It was twenty bucks for tickets, and I was about 10 feet from Joe. A really intimate place, you could sit in the back and were still maybe 100-120 feet away. Nathan P. Murphy's describes itself as Springfield's official blues club, and I believe it. Great sound, great acoustics, great vibe. Just a smokey blues club.

Another thing I noticed is that I can tell that Joe has picked up a thing or two from BB King. Not from the playing, that's a given, but from the way he interacts with the crowd. The way he introduced the band, the way he chastised us for not singing on Burning Hell (anybody ever seen BB when he does When Love Comes To Town?) I can just see where he picked some things up. And it's great. I've heard in the past that Joe is one of those that just gets up there and plays. Tonight I didn't see that. A lot of interaction with the crowd.

The dude selling cds did. He said they were going to Fort Wayne and that it was his hometown. Also, a waitress who worked there said the same thing.

Re: Nathan P. Murphy's in Springfield, Missouri: June 12, 2006

Yikes!! I hope it is not cancelled, I took 6 people to the show last night and am taking another 6 people tonight. I work about 2 blocks from Nathan P. Murphy's I just might have to cruise by and see what is going on.

Re: Nathan P. Murphy's in Springfield, Missouri: June 12, 2006

Glad you had a great time seeing Joe for the first time, Deezer!  The first time I saw him live, I couldn't  get it out of my head for a month- Joe really puts on a fantastic show.  Pretty soon you're gonna find yourself travelling great distances to see him play smile

I'm averaging about 4 shows a year, and it's still not enough!! Think I have to break my own "4 hour drive max" rule if I want to see Joe any time again soon this year-

Re: Nathan P. Murphy's in Springfield, Missouri: June 12, 2006

According to the message on Murphy's phone the show is cancelled due to Joe having to go to New York to promote You & Me at the last minute.

Re: Nathan P. Murphy's in Springfield, Missouri: June 12, 2006

The Monday show was the first I have missed in Springfield, was going to the Tuesday show til cancel;led.  Had prior obligations with Legion Baseball with my son playing, it was his night to pitch.  Sorry I missed you Joe but I'll catch a show soon in another location.

Take care
