Topic: Cape Cod Melody Tent - Hyannis, MA
Interesting show tonite at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, MA. This is a rather small venue (I think 2300?) that features a revolving stage. It revolves ver-r-ry slowly. It is also a very small stage-still can't figure out how they got everyone on there, and Joe definitely couldn't move around much. Because of all the stuff on the stage (including Anton's very tall drum platform and the music stands) it was difficult to watch part of the show. There WERE some interesting perspectives - sort of like watching from backstage or sidestage, but I think this was one time it would have been better to have seats farther back from the stage (I was in the fourth row). Mike had to figure out which side Joe would be on when he had to change out guitars, so he certainly had to work a bit extra tonite. Joe played here many years ago with BB King and he mentioned not being able to figure out how he fit his whole band on stage.
The sound was good - some of the female vocals seemed to get lost much of the time, but Joe was coming thru loud and clear most of the time. Joe's voice is amazing these days - in this show it seems like it is a bigger part of the show than the guitar at times. Also great is hearing what Joe did with all these classic songs - great renditions of all of them.
I'll see the "real" show tomorrow in Bangor, ME. Looking forward to it.
