Topic: Newbie Meetand greet question

Hello All,

Thanks to all that helped answer my question about meeting Joe!  I now have another question.  I have  JB Gold Top Epiphone that I'm hoping he will personalize to me and sign it. Is there any extra charge for this?  I don't think so, but I want to make sure my girlfriend and I have a fantastic night.  Some bands don't sign instruments. Some do...

Getting it signed shouldn't be an issue. They have a procedure they ask people to follow to expedite things (you're supposed to stand in line with the guitar only, out of the case), but I can't imagine that there would be any trouble. Joe has signed a TON of his signature Epi models since they debuted...

buy a blank truss rod cover too..
he signed the back of the headstock between the tuners and my TRC.

Thanks for the info! I have both of his signature guitars.  I'm thinking of getting him to sign the GT and keeping the PB as my player.  What a great decision to have to make! I can't wait!

As they say during the M&G prep, he'll sign anything but body parts and prosthetics. Two items per person limit.

Getting it signed doesn't preclude it being a player. Just have him sign the back of the headstock instead of the "wall hanger" location of the front of the body. It'll fit between the tuners, unless of course you have the 2015+ mandatory Min-ETune/G-Force tuners.

I do like the look of the blank truss rod cover. I'm going to bring a couple of those to the next M&G I attend. I'm not a collector of signatures in general, but that does look pretty cool.

Yeah.. I shot his GT and the pelham blue sig models.  I was gonna initially have him sign the body of the gold top along with an inspirational message and retire it, but his guitars sound so great that I love playing both of them!

Do you know the secret handshake? No? To find out, you will need to decode the cryptic message written under every Fender Twin Reverb amp circuit board...

As far as I know, there is still no charge for signing.

One thing to keep in mind - don't worry about bringing a suitable pen - Joe and crew carry a myriad of markers and metallic ink pens that are known to work well.  Before I met Joe with my Goldtop LP, I went to a newsagents and spent about $30 on gold and silver paint based metallic markers, but when Joe got to me, he pointed out how those would be unsuitable and would not dry quick enough and risk smudging.  He already had gold and silver markers on him which he used - and the sig is still there and unsmudged years later.

Got to say that the guy who has done it hundreds of times has to know better than most what works! wink

I've just worked so hard to set up the meet and greet , I thought you were serious about the handshake at first! Lol!

Glad you asked theses questions Parasite68.  I'll be seeing him next month in Bangor and would love to bring my GT.

However, I would like to know what to do with it during the concert!  Can anyone help me there?  I'm sure that taking it to my seat would be frowned upon.  It is an outdoor venue so there is a risk of weather too.

I can't speak for Joe's crew, but I've met KISS and Shinedown, and I was able to bring my guitars to my car after the meet and greet.  The meet and greets that I've been to go shockingly fast.  They walk up to you say hello, give a hand shake talk a bit while signing stuff, take picture, and next!  I've watched Joes M&G on YouTube and he seems to be a little more into it and a whole lot more personable, taking time with each guest.  But I'm sure you'll have enough time to get your stuff back to the car! 

If I'm wrong, just do what I'll be doing... Introduce yourself as Joe's special guest sportingmy own Epiphone Bonamassa GT.  Before each soo, lean into Joe and say "don't worry, I've got this.  If it works out right I'll be ushered to my car immediately! smile. Seriously though, the meet and greet happens about 5-530pm, it'll last for about 45 mins to an hour. The main doors open around 630pm or 7 so you'll be able to bring your guitar back to your car. Be careful with the heat , park in a raised lot or a shady place. Heat kills and cracks guitar necks!  Just something to be aware of!

When I had my JB Goldtop signed last year, the venue was close to home, so I had plenty of time to bring my guitar home after the meet and greet. The thought of leaving it in my car during the concert did not sit well with me. Another option would be to ask a friend to meet you at the venue and take your guitar home after the meet and greet.

Very good suggestiions!  I must admit I was on pins and needles during both shows with my guitars in the back of my mind.

Hi Mini-Steve.. if your hotel isn't too far away from the venue (and you value your guitar) take it back to your room
you'll have almost 2hrs to kill (with dinner in there too) before having to take your seats at 7:30pm.

now I have to just figure out how to get myself back on a MnG.

Steve, I was lucky with my M&G with Joe - I was staying in a hotel just across the street from the venue.

The M&G was around 4pm, and show didn't start until around 7:30pm, so there was PLENTY of time to spend at the M&G, then return my guitar to the hotel, go out and get a leisurely dinner and get to the show.

Sounds like you've got a slightly longer walk, but it should work.  The Meet and Greets are generally straight after sound check, so if they finish that around 4pm and meet everyone, then you should have lots of time to safely stow your guitar back at your hotel room.

I saw Joe at Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta and I saw a guy hand his guitar to a venue employee behind the info/concierge desk in the lobby. You might check to see if there is such a service at your venue.

With that being said, I too have a JB Goldtop  I am wanting signed at my next M/G and I have a dilemma concerning just where I want the autograph. I know Joe signs the back of the headstock or the pick guard so the guitar can still be played but I don't play, not a note, and the purpose of my buying this guitar was to display alongside Carmelita. I am wanting it signed on the main body of the guitar so as to get a larger, more complete signature. I am told this renders the guitar unplayable due to possible damage to the signature but it very likely will never be played unless I take up the guitar. Needing guidance here, this is killing me...
