Topic: Retired my favorite pair of headphones - What do you have?

Today I had to say good-bye to another pair of Koss headphones.  What's worse is they don't even make the ones I was using anymore.  I've had the same model of Koss headphones for a good 25 years.

I plugged in a pair of Sony headphones into my stereo today and put Joe on and it didn't even sound like him.   I messed with the bass, treble and everything else I can fiddle with and can't get the same kind of clean sound I had with my Koss headphones.   I'm going to try another pair of Koss but I have to order them because finding them around town is hard for some reason.

What brand of stereo headphones do you use?  Did you have a pair that you loved and wish you still hard?

Re: Retired my favorite pair of headphones - What do you have?

Sennheiser; AKG; Sony

Second question, a pair of 80's very open on ear AKG's that were somewhere between $40-70 inflationary dollars.  And long studio use comfy (even though I pulled off the removable foam pads).  Not only that, they sounded great. big_smile

I can't see spending $X on "audiophile" headphones...may as well go $$$XXX on audiofile [sic] speakers. Yes, I like cranking it up such that it may perpetrate another's ears!

Re: Retired my favorite pair of headphones - What do you have?

I love my headphones but not so much that I'd fork over $50 and up for them. The ones I was using were like 20-25 dollars when I bought them.   When I was pricing some headphones I nearly fell out of my chair.  I just couldn't phathom paying $200 for a pair of stereo headphones for home use.  I beat up on my headphones a bit.  Plus, I wish they'd make cords that allow you to walk half way across a room.  *L*

Sennheiser. I have three pairs. Two in ear one over ear. All have long chords and a great sound. big_smile

I have an Audio-Technica around-the-ear pair and a Bose on-the-ear pair. Neither are particularly expensive, but I have been quite satisfied with them...

I ended up getting a Klipsch set and am happy with them.

I tried the Candy ones once a few years back to use with my computer at work.  It didn't sound good so I switched to a pair of cheap Sony ones that did the trick. The only issue I have with them is that I keep getting the cord caught in my desk drawer.  I've had them for about five years now and the fact they still work after the amount of times the cord has been caught in my desk drawer or how many times I've rolled over the cord with my chair is pretty remarkable.

I've never heard of Klipsch. I'll have to look into them.

Klipsch has been around a long while, but is more well known for their loudspeakers.

Grado are by far the best headphones I've ever used.

Gary,
I do not own a pair but I have heard good reviews from folks in the area.  George's shop is in the suburbs of Philly.  His rewired amps (Fenders mostly) don't last long in the stores around here.

Apologies for being "slightly" off topic here; the other day we were invited to a recently closed down school to take our pick of some of the remaining equipment from the music dept. to transfer to the school where I work. Imagine the surprise to come across a mint-in-box Shure SM58 microphone.....
