Topic: Who is Joes luthier?

I own a beautiful 1999 Gibson Historic Shop R57 Black Beauty Custom Les Paul in mint condition with the chunky 57 neck. I wanted to find out what luthier Joe might recommend who can plane my neck down to 1960's neck specs, and do great finish job and refret?
Thanks. A great JB fan from KC, Mo

Re: Who is Joes luthier?

There are great luthiers allover the country if you are in the US.

The primary thing to remember is that changing the neck will considerably alter the way the guitar not only feels to the hand but also sounds. My feeling is, if you want to get a 60's neck, find the guitar that already has it.

This. In fact, he may not know it but Kim duplicated the measurements of  the neck of my '57 when he refinished Joe's  Kossoff LP a few years ago. Call Kim. He's a great guy who does amazing work

Re: Who is Joes luthier?

Surely you'd be better off in the long run selling the '57 and picking up one with a 60's neck?

Re: Who is Joes luthier?

altering the guitar is not advisable, it makes more sense to sell it in its original condition and buy a R0
