Topic: Gear question advise.

Is there a place for 'stacking' pedals and order?   I'm not a professional but have started down the 'tone' highway (good excuse for lack of skills)..have what I want and need only one addition: a distortion.  Rat/TS9/Maxon seem to be the standard to stack with ODs... and should go in front of the ODs, is that correct?   Is there a good, quiet pedal to add to the few I'm fortunate to have with QUIET being the essential word..I understand the resistors in the Ibenez models lend to hiss...and don't have the funds to 'experiment' more...I'm sure Joe is set up with a 'hush' set up, but how about just us little guys at home?  Some how I think there are better quality pedals you can find used...any suggestions?

What do you already have that you're looking to make work w/ the distortion pedal?  And do you want OD or distortion?

Truly, pedal order is in the ear of the beholder, and the "rules" only work if it sounds good to you.  That said, this is a pretty good overview:

It's one of those things where I wish there was one factual way to do it, but it takes some playing around.
Most impact I could see is where I put my SparkleDrive in the chain especially when I have other drive pedals.
Different pedals work together differently. hmm

Distortion in front of OD = OD adds only volume
Vice versa the OD adds gain, but doesn't add dramatic increase of volume.
