Topic: Lazy J J20 Amps- disappointment!!

Long time no posting...

Anyway, I scored one of these and I simply don't get the boo-hah-hah that surrounds them.

I thought it was very much a one trick pony- Neil Young sound and that's it. I know Joe has  a few and for me, they simply are that one sound, dirty tweed and that's it.

I much prefer my Hiwatts and my Clapton Twinolux over it.

Anyone else got a view on these?

Re: Lazy J J20 Amps- disappointment!!

Hi Jakey. Good to see you posting again. I believe you helped me out a lot with some tone tips in the past. I have never had the chance to play a Lazy J but the clips I have heard sound very good, very rich with lots of tube warmth. They sound like a good platform for pedals.  Does yours work well with pedals?  What do you prefer about your Clapton Twinolux?

Re: Lazy J J20 Amps- disappointment!!

I've always wanted one of these, but my fear is the same as yours - that I might not like the sound.  I haven't played too much with Tweed amps - my tone preference is towards the early Mesa Mark 1 & 2 sounds, especially the cleans.

That said, I don't think you will have much trouble selling your Lazy J amp - there are a lot of people on the waitlist who would gladly take it off your hands for pretty much what you paid for it...

Can't beat those classic Hiwatts. I also do not get the hype of Lazy J...they're good, but not that good.
I'll be sticking with my 100watters.

PS. Many thanks for the Drybell Vibe, J - great service! wink

Re: Lazy J J20 Amps- disappointment!!

Well, all good....

I sold it and found out it had a dodgy valve seat soon after. So I have bought another and a 1 x 12 to try and dig into it.

Dave- how's the drybell? Enjoying?
