Topic: Thanks Joe and all you guitarists are amazing

Stumbled across you folks while searching the web to find out how to make a guitar sound great. Thought I'd take a moment to thank Joe for the wonderful entertainment he provides and let all of you guitarists---pro and home players alike--- know that what you do is amazing to the rest of us! I've been trying to learn to play for over a year and I am terrible! Just awful. Not like all new folks probably say they are bad but, really bad! What you all do is really cool so enjoy every minute of your talent! I'm on my second teacher (not the first teacher's fault--he moved away!) and the new poor sap that has to put up with my middle aged brain every week is going to earn his money! Anyway, I'm not crying about it. Trying to learn to play has given me a very deep appreciation for types of music, how its made, ect ect in all kinds of ways that I never would have imagined had I not tried myself. The effort has been worth it's weight in gold in so many ways. I'm going to keep at it, but even you home noodlers should realized that it is hard to play the guitar. You rock.  Thanks again!

What a wonderful first post! Don't compare yourself to other guitarists, cause some people progress more efficiently than others. I admire your persistence in not giving up. You'll get there smile

It's really about putting the time in, just like with anything else. I've been playing for probably about 6 years, and I still wouldn't consider myself good, and I agree with Erin, never compare yourself to other guitar players, It'll only cause frustration, I can't tell you how many times ive gotten frustrated trying to play stuff that joe plays.

JF, great first post! Stick with it, and try to play as often as you can. Picking up the guitar every day, even if its only for a few minutes helps build muscle memory. Even though I've been playing for well over thirty years, I still only consider myself just an ok guitar player. My biggest regret is not starting earlier. Anytime I want to remember what if felt like in the beginning, I just flip the guitar around and hold it left handed and try to make a C chord shape with my right hand.

I am in some agreement with you, that it takes a guitar player, no matter how good or bad, to approach appreciating what Joe does.  It's all so intricate...the playing, the set-up, the gear, just too much to take in and to understand for us mere mortals!

Hey JF!  I suck at it too!  smile  But for me, even though I suck at it, it still brings me a joy and peace that I just love.  Keep tying and playing, you will find songs that you will just have to play.

Hello!  Persistance is key.  I thought a great many times during the first few years about quiting learning.  Been playing 14 years now and I'm glad I didn't.  One day you just realise "hey! I am actually going somewhere with this".
