Topic: Qq re JB SD custom pickups dc values

Hi all, new here... Just put some lovely joe custom pickups in my les paul custom.

I've not been as blown away as other reviewers and just wanted to compare som dc values....

Now I know this is not scientific but the pups are now installed (correctly I assume).

The box states neck 7.7k and bridge 8.26k.....

If I connect my multimeter to positive and negative tips of my lead I get readings of neck 7.35k and bridge 7.85k.

I reckon I can put down a difference from the box to real life as I am going through pots and circuitry and cables etc but I would like to see how others compare. Both pots fully at 10 and tone fully dimed.

To my ears the pups sound a bit colder than I was expecting, and I'm not getting "the sound" I was anticipating.

Have I a bad set or are these values normal?

Re: Qq re JB SD custom pickups dc values

I see you found the 'sticky' note with most of everyone that has said they bought a set (with limited ed number)

You can not effectively measure a DC resistance of a pickup attached to the tone cap and pot.

you measure them disconnected from the circuit.

I have PIO cap's in my guitar, are you running the 'standard' ceramic cap's?

Hi there thanks for the reply, yep standard ceramic caps... I get that I cannot measure the dc resistance accurately, I was just looking for a quick and dirty comparison with others who have installed the pups in their les Pauls.

Temperature does it too... but they usually fluctuate .25 up or down. Warm makes them go up, cold makes the reading go down.

I just had a bit of a moment... Played for a good two and a half hours. Changed my amp settings a bit.... I tended to get the best super clean sound on my mesa and use my pedals for drive. I decided to load the amp a bit more and select the 5watt option on my LSS.

Definitely got some MUCH Better results. It's almost 2100 here, I have to stop in case the police arrive.... But I think I may be onto something. Hopefully have a little more play tomorrow.... I also used to play on treble with my tone fully open. I am finding if I roll the tone back a bit on these I get nearer the sound I thought I was looking for.

Hint
Joe never plays on 10.
Tone around 5-6 rising to about 8
Same goes for volume. Stay at 6 for clean roll up to 8+ for gritty work

So yes you will turn up the amp a bit

New pups arrived and fitted, might just be my temperamental muso ears but these are much better! Warmer, more responsive.... I'd reckon it was more my install than the pups, but I can't be certain. New set in and I am blown away. Set 1675.
