Topic: Wines for Thanksgiving
I recently taught a class featuring "wines for Thanksgiving". This is a question I get all the time and this year was the 1st time that the class enjoyed all 4 wines.
So I thought I would share this with the JB Peeps who don't subscribe to my sporadic "blog" ;-)
All of these wines are under $20.
#1 - Gruet Sparkling Blanc De Noir from New Mexico. It is a blend of Chardonnay & Pinot Noir. This is the best budget "Champagne" you can find.
#2 - Beckmen Vineyards Grenache Rose' from Los Olivos, CA. Most of the time you think of Rose' wine in the summer, but this is my "go to" every Thanksgiving. It is not sweet and I love it!
#3 - Tablas Creek Patelin de Tablas Blanc from Paso Robles, CA. It is a white blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne & Marsanne. My fave pairing with this wine is Truffle Mac & Cheese.
#4 - Cosentino Winery "The Franc" from Lodi, CA. It is Cabernet Franc (different from Cabernet Sauvignon). Cabernet Franc is more fresh herb with light tannins.
Our Menu:
Herbed Roasted Turkey.
Cornbread Dressing.
Fresh Cranberry Sauce (not canned).
Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallows.
Fresh Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Rosemary.
Cream Corn Casserole.
Truffle Mac & Cheese.
Field Greens with Candied Pecans, Cranberries, Pears & Gorgonzola in an Herbed Vinaigrette.
Pumpkin Custard Pie with a Ginger Snap Crust.
Just as an FYI....
My "go to" wines for Thanksgiving: Grenache Rose', Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, a dry Riesling and Lambrusco....yes, Lambrusco. But I get one that is around $30. Everything else is around $15-$20.
I hope this was helpful and I would love to hear what everybody else is doing for Thanksgiving.
Cheers Y'all!
