Topic: Joe's Guitar

Hi all - newbie here.   Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place.   I basically want to know what is THE JB guitar to get.  There seems to be numerous versions of Gibsons.   It's all a little confusing with the various 2014 versions of 1959 this and gold top that.   Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Joe's Guitar

Thank you Nic, that's very helpful.   There is a guitar on ebay for $9779.  Where would you rank that one?

hi Mike
You did not say which guitar on eBay. Are you referring to the aged Skinner Burst? That is the step below a Aged/ signed Skinner burst. Still a awesome guitar, if you have the $$ it is worth it.
The aged/signed skinner burst have the serial number written on the headstock by Joe and he signed it. The aged skinners and vos have standard serial numbers. Only 50 aged/signed were produced. I would put the aged skinner second on Nicks list.

Re: Joe's Guitar

Thank you Ron.   The guitar is titled "2014 Gibson Custom JOE BONAMASSA 1959 Les Paul SKINNERBURST AGED unplayed/MINT!!"

So aged/signed is the one to have - IF you can find them.

I've had the same Yamaha guitar for a long time.  I'm in a position to buy something crazy like the aged/signed guitar.   Who needs a new car, right?  smile

Re: Joe's Guitar

One other question:   What is a nice amp (tubes preferred) to go with the guitar?

Re: Joe's Guitar

Sorry for all the questions, but would the one on ebay entitled "2014 Gibson Les Paul 1959 SKINNERBURST VOS Joe Bonamassa Lemonburst Reissu R9 59" be good?   Would it be considered "#2" on Nic's list?

Re: Joe's Guitar

The Vos would be #2 on Nic's list, but just because he didn't put The Skinnerburst Aged and Signed at #1. As Ron said the real order should be:

#1 Skinnerburst Aged and Signed (hand signed by Joe) (50 made)
#2 Skinnerburst Aged (100 made)
#3 Skinnerburst VOS (150 made)

Fender John Mayer, Clapton CS, Ash Tele Am. These were around $7,000 when they were first being sold. Some dude's trying to make some money off of it. My opinion. If it's worth that $9,000 to you, go for it.

Constant revolving door with Joe's rig.

There are good amps that aren't as powerful. Depends how anal retentive you are to have 'exactly' what Joe has... Some good tube amps can be had for $500 budget or less as recommended by JB.

Re: Joe's Guitar

One guitar that was left off the list above, the Bonamassa signature Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop, my avatar. I bought mine in April of this year and I've played it every day since got it, and I love it. As far as amps are concerned, I would say try lots of them and chose what sounds good to YOU. Shortly after I got my Les Paul I bought a Marshall DSL40C, and I really like it, though before I bought it, I heard every conceivable opinion, from love it, to hate it. The bottom line is we can only recommend Guitars and Amps, ultimately you have to chose what makes you happy.

Re: Joe's Guitar

Thanks everyone for your help.  I REALLY wanted a JB signed guitar, but couldn't do it.  I ended up buying a $3000 1950's style Les Paul.  I tried out all the Gibson's at the store and really liked the sound of this one.   I ended up with a Fender Blues something amp (EL-84 tube based).

I'll still keep an eye out for a JB signed guitar....maybe....maybe.....one day.

Thanks again everyone for your help.
