Topic: Antwerpen 05.10.2014

Hi there,

got back from the Antwerpen show yesterday.
Went there with my other Bonaholic Pal Stepmo.
First we visited Antwerpen.
A nice town with an old train station. Very impressive.
Everybody seems to be out that day. A streets were full and busy.

The Lotto Arena is a very cool venue for concerts. I liked it.
The place was packed. Maybe there were 4000-5000 people in. Just my guess.
The show started 07.00 p.m. with Highway to Hell.

Setlist as follows:

Seagull
Jelly Roll
Different Shades of Blue  (Yeah!)
Black Lung Heartache   (with beautiful Impro just before)
Happier Times
Jockey Full of Bourbon
Dislocated Boy
Ball Peen Hammer
Athens to Athens

Dust Bowl
Oh Beautiful!
Who's Been Talking
Blues Deluxe
I Gave Up Everything for You, 'Cept the Blues
Love Ain't a Love Song
Sloe Gin
The Ballad of John Henry

Django
Mountain Time

The acoustic set last 60 Minutes. Very long this time.
Electric set 105 Minutes.

Highlights were Oh beautiful with different singing from Joe compared to the shows some months ago.
Who's been talking with stunning quite middle part. Joe asked the crowd to shut up in this part.
As somebody shouted in the hall. Just kidding Joe.
I really liked the slower played Blues Deluxe.

In the acoustic set Different shades really was a surprise. Don't know if it was played fist time here ?
Also cool improvisation before Black Lung heartache.

Joe and Band were really on fire.
Is was really loud. But you have to listen to Joe's music loud. That's a fact.

Negative point:  The sound itself was good in the Lotto Arena. Especially Joe's voice but Drums and Bass were louder than Joe's Guitars. That's a no go. The whole electric set you could hardly hear Joe's guitar very clear.
I did not like that. Maybe the mixing guys were already sleeping.
Next time I have to tell them directly.

But all in all the gig was superb as all concerts from Joe. Even better than Brussels in March.

See you at Carre in March Joe. cannot wait. hopefully with the new production.
Europe loves you!!!

Thanks, Steinei for the review of the Belgian Show. We saw JB in Zurich on Oct. 1st. Almost the same setlist with one difference: Our Acoustic part started with Woke Up Dreaming and DID NOT include Different Shades of Blue (which I would have loved to hear but you can't have all). The sound was brilliant in Hallenstadion (though we couldn't mind sitting in first row center... But friends from the rear seats told us everything was fine there, too). It was a magic night we are still dreaming of.

Wow! "Different Shades of Blue" acoustic! Really hope he does this when we see him in November!

Re: Antwerpen 05.10.2014

Was absolutely positively suprised by the intensity of the acoustic part.

The shouting was a tad inappropriate, but was Joe really annoyed by this?

Can't wait till March!

I was there, front row and it was amazing!

Thankfully my earplugs worked fine and it was a pleasure seeing Joe at work just a few feet away. My buddy has some videos, I'll up them when I can.

Thanks for that set list Steinei, that  just confirms what I saw on setlist. fm .  Hopefully this set list will make it into the fall U.S. tour because I've seen the full acoustic set twice and at the risk of becoming stale, I welcome the inclusion of some songs from the new album.
As a far as the electric set I am happy to see both Sloe Gin and Blues Deluxe included. I've never heard Blues Deluxe live and I'm bringing my sister to her first Joe show and she really wanted to hear Sloe Gin, I've heard two versions of it but it never gets old.
