Topic: Joe playing on Johnny Winter's new & last CD Step Back
I'm listening to Joe playing on the brand new Johnny Winter CD, Step Back. How is it? In one word, brilliant. This cd has Johnny playing with other hot guitar slingers such as Eric Clapton, Ben Harper and of course, Joe Bonamassa. It also has HORNS on several cuts!
Joe plays on the longest tune, nearly 8 min long, Sweet Sixteen. I am slightly biased, but I think Joe plays the best solo of anyone on the cd. Leslie West and Dr. John also play on the album.
Johnny just died back in July. This makes a fine exit album for him. He died as he lived - on the road. Kudos to his "new" management and backing band who brought him back to live in the early 2000's. He produced some good albums and tours.
I have been unable to find a cause of death (does anyone here know it?)
I saw Johnny Winter with his brother when I was just a kid in high school in the mid 1960's. You could drink beer at 18 and I saw him and Edgar in Saks Boom Boom Room on the Bossier Strip in Louisiana. I vaguely remember two albino guys in glitter suits. My young eyes were really focused on the go go dancers.
RIP Johnny and thanks for the new album. What a way to go out!
