Topic: Advice required by a (1st time) guitar buyer

Hey folks,

Well, maybe not so much advice as 2nd opinions.

A young friend of mine, of limited resources, is looking to take up guitar playing and has a mind to pick up an acoustic or electric with a budget of between $150 - $200.

Four models he's currently looking at are:-

Ibanez V7OCE acoustic/electric
Ibanez Performance Series PF15 Acoustic Dreadnaught
Ibanez GRX20
Ibanez GRX70Q

For the prices quoted through Musician's Friend website and the reviews given, I don't think he's doing bad for his Dollars, but maybe you folks know better?

His musical influences are Rock & Country with a side of Bluegrass and I am "educating" him toward Joe.
Thanks in advance for any advice/tips.

Mike

More important than the brand is how the guitar is set up, intonation and action is key. I believe many beginners get discouraged because of a poorly set up guitar. Any of the listed choices will work, as long as they are properly set up.
