Topic: Red Rocks Ticket Issue

I have a friend (a long time staunch Bonamassa fan and a member of this Forum) that has purchased a number of tickets for this show when the pre sale was on. Most are in the first 6 rows. She has been told she cannot have them sent to her and will need to pick them up at will call on the day of the show. Given that more than a dozen people are involved and some are making air and hotel arrangements predicated on getting access to these seats, it seems unfortunate. The back up at will call on show day could be intense.

I fully realize, as does she, that the purpose is to keep the premium seats from getting scalped. She has purchased them for friends (serious Joe fans that could not access the presale) and not to profit from re-sale.

Ticketmaster has been unable or unwilling to help. Is there anyone from JR Adventures that can help her secure these tickets in advance of the show?

Thanks Rusty. I just sent him a message.

Re: Red Rocks Ticket Issue

Tom Petty has used a similar tactic in the past, and I never had a problem having to wait an excessive amount of time in a line at will call the day of the show.  It does keep the scalping in check to a degree, and actually I am kind of glad ticketmaster wouldn't help you with this- I'm sure they've been asked to do this enough times by non-legitimate buyers.

I would suggest you call the venue and find out what type of a set up they have for this sort of situation - how many windows will be open, average wait time, etc.  If someone is cutting it that close as far as timing than maybe they should rethink their travel arrangements.  This person did a bunch of people a favor and the least they can do is make arrangements to meet her way before the show is supposed to start.

I hope Eric can help you, but I think it is best to proceed making plans as if he will not be able to do anything.

I agree that it has helped with the scalping and I do think it has a legitimate purpose. Unfortunate are the consequences to legitimate (and in many respect die hard) fans. My only fear is the huge jam up near Will Call the day of the show and trying to coordinate meeting someone in the throng to get my tickets. (They are in her name not mine so there is no hope I can get them myself). I know there are others coming in from a pretty good distance. For me it is 4000 miles round trip airfare+hotel bills etc. I would hate to miss the start because Red Rocks can't handle it. I suspect if it is the first 7 rows or so that could be close to 700 people waiting.

I am hoping Eric might have a solution but appreciate your input Sandy. The only alternative is be there as early as humanly possible and wait and hope.

Re: Red Rocks Ticket Issue

If it makes you feel any better I went to London for the first RAH show with no tickets in my possession -had to pick them up at will call.  It was a bit nerve-wracking to get on a plane, fly across the Atlantic and not know for almost a week after we arrived if my tickets would be there.  They were and it was fine.

Call the venue and ask what time you can pick tickets up before the show.  With sharing of phone numbers amongst all the attendees you should be able to all meet up in a timely manner.

You are going to have a blast!

Re: Red Rocks Ticket Issue

That's a lot of worrying for very little valid reasoning.  A military saying goes "proper planning prevents poor performance."

Whomever bought the tickets needs to get their act together and arrive EARLY, disperse tickets one-by one if necessary.  Don't tell me it cannot be done.  I've done it, others have.  Airports have drivers standing with a sign with a stranger's name on it awaiting their arrival.  Where's the problem?  It is unfounded.

So you see, the RESPONSIBILITY, the onus is ON whomever's bright idea this was (and it IS).  Trying to pre- or post-show blame ticketmaster or J & R is absurd.  We have WAITED for YEARS for this type of situation.  This is a personal responsibility and group communication effort.  Even if the people are complete strangers, take a tip from security enterprises and spies and have a password, descriptions, and/or catch phrase.

I apologize if I happen to come off rough sounding, but requests like this are not practical, useful, or, most importantly, not necessary. And somebody has to say so.

Think of team sports, you know, relays, hand offs, passes, etc. and all will go very smoothly.  All my suggestions can even work if there are NO in and out privileges and no one knows anyone else or even has a working cell phone.

Good Luck!!! I DON'T think you'll need it. Just a plan...

Re: Red Rocks Ticket Issue

For those that need to pick up their tickets at will-call, (including me, yay!):

Box Office & Will Call

The Red Rocks Box Office & Will Call is located on Red Rocks Park Road (Entrance 2) and is open on show days approximately 2 1/2 hours prior to show time. Tickets are only available for same-day events.

From: http://redrocksonline.com/concerts-even … /ticketing

Based on that, I'll be getting there 2 hours and 31 minutes before the show. :-) A good (and certainly first-world) problem to have.

Re: Red Rocks Ticket Issue

I'm sure this is not the first concert that Red Rocks used this policy so I've got to believe they will be fully capable of handling the will call tickets. I have to pick up four myself.

Just a thought: The ticket purchaser, you, and the others that she bought tickets for can use this forum to aid in the distribution. It might not be necessary, but it might be helpful. Many times, members here have planned pre-show meet-ups on the forum. I like the forum versus a site like Facebook because this is topic based, not timeline based, and you don't have to be a member to view this site.

Re: Red Rocks Ticket Issue

No blame for Ticketmaster, JR or anyone else Rocket. (I don't think my posts have been accusatory do you)? Just a hope to avoid a problem. 700 will calls for front row seat holders not including anyone else of the crowd of 10,000 that may have tickets @ will call too, only 2 1/2 hours to process them. It could be very tight depending on how many windows, how many problems people may have, how well Red Rocks are organized etc. Die hard fans are not the problem. Scalpers are. Just hoping to see if there was a way to make it easier for those that are truly not the problem avoid problems of their own, not of their own making and created only because they bought the best seats.

The person who placed the orders will be there as will all the rest of us trailing behind her if need be. It clearly is not going to be OUR organizational problem. The only hope is that it is not a systemic problem at a venue that seats close to 10,000 people. Are they used to holding shows where the first 7 or so rows are will call? With 95 to a row, that is a lot of people.

Since the person that bought them is known here, is clearly not a scalper and has been acting to help other fans here get tickets, we had hoped there could be some relief to avoid issues for true fans at the venue. No accusations Rocket.

Re: Red Rocks Ticket Issue

^Roger that, again with an apology, no accusations were made from you, Norton.  My fear was that someone else might tag onto your concerns with an even greater fear and yet another frightful fear-mongering (again, NOT of YOUR design) festival would arise, and start to run rampant here, on The Best Joe Bonamassa Information Booth on the planet.  Outbreaks of fear and loathing have been known to occur here, often with the LEAST amount of prodding from anyone, and ZERO jabbing from regular reading and writing visitors.  Nip it in the bud is all I was doing, as was your aim also I am confident! wink

That said;

I should add I went through a lessons learned experience with this very concern at a Joe Bonamassa concert 12 years ago when he was opening for Bad Co. and Foreigner at an even larger (25,000+) summer venue.  I had actually HAD the 8 tickets sent and somehow ( roll ) magically/tragically lost the tickets and it was approaching crunch time in a couple of days.  I had called and my information was recorded and I was repeatedly assured by box office management it was going to be F-I-N-E. However, the crowd was going to be huge, and the arrival times were going to be scattered, and I knew exactly one other person.  Top that off with the will call jammed and then FURTHER top that off with the verbally promised solution situation needing to be escalated because of, you guessed it, SNAFU. Information LOST.  They actually gave me a VOUCHER not quite last minute after much panic, tap dancing, head spinning, and weirdness.  It turned out funny when it appeared the trench coat I was wearing apparently had a bottle of contraband liquor fall out as we finally were in line and entering the checkpoint (I would have downed the thing prior if it HAD been mine, lol). It turned out the Family Guy Dad in line behind us (as security was pondering legitimacy of said voucher via 2-way radio, and...all 8 HAD TO GO IN AT ONCE!) had had his little girl do his smuggling and she nervously fumbled the bottle to the ground!  It was a moment of whaaa? WTF?!, which became comic relief, folklore fit for posterity for my girlfriend & I, as the impression was instantly giving my new guests (including her brother and sister-in law and best friends yikes) short, scorn adorned eyebrows raised with FURTHER immediate concerns regarding me!  I still can laugh about it all!!! lol

But I had screwed up and yes, those seats were very good. And yes, I found the actual tickets later on when I moved and they had mysteriously fallen underneath a vent duct, which they then just as mysteriously fell out of!!!  hmm neutral lol  ...It was will call if possible from then on for me...

Re: Red Rocks Ticket Issue

According to Red Rocks website, the doors for the Show opens at 5:30, show is at 7:00. Will Call is open 2 hours before the doors open. Plenty of time...  Should be great!
