Topic: Vacation Pics: Yosemite, Sequoia and King's Canyon NP's

I thought I'd post these for anyone interested.
My wife and I spent 10 days hiking/touring Yosemite, Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks...followed by two days on
Lake Tahoe. Great trip and absolutely fabulous scenery.

I was able to whittle this down to less than 500 pics (I apologize for the volume, but around every corner...):

Great shots and vistas Bill. The Rockies and Sierra Nevada are some of the most beautiful places in the country. We never can have too much of it. Not too long and we'll be up in the Rockies just prior to Red Rocks doing the same.

Wow some really great photos! The background on some of those photos almost looks fake because of how beautiful it is. This will be added to the places I need to see! Glad you guys had fun! smile

Re: Vacation Pics: Yosemite, Sequoia and King's Canyon NP's

Absolutely beautiful pics, thanks for sharing!!  I bet seeing that bear and her cubs up close was pretty amazing.  That's literally a once in a lifetime experience.  I've got Yosemite on my bucket list, our National Park system is fantastic and people should take advantage of what our beautiful country has to offer.

Thanks again for sharing those stunning photos!

Nice pics.

Re: Vacation Pics: Yosemite, Sequoia and King's Canyon NP's

Nice pics Bill. First time in Yosemite? Most people I know are awestruck the first time they enter the valley. Didn't see any Hetch Hetchy pics, one of my favorite hikes around the reservoir, which is San Francisco's water supply. Did you come in the north gate and see all the Rim Fire damage? The town of Groveland is on that side, have a bunch of friends there, was invited up Friday, but too spur of the moment.

J Dawg...our first trip to Yosemite, but we visited Glacier National park last year, so we were somewhat prepared for awesome vistas.
We came from Reno and entered on the east side via Tioga Road. We actually stayed at a resort directly off of route 120, a place called Sunset Inn...I believe Graceland is the nearest town. The inn was actually lucky. The fire came right to their doorstep, they were evacuated and the firefighters told them had they not kept their property cleared they would have lost the resort.
We never made it to Hetch Hetchy, but spent a few days in the valley, hiked from Glacier Point (3200 feet down) into the valley, drove the Tioga Road, hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, visited Tuolumne Meadows, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, Bridalveil Falls, Vernal Falls, floated the Merced River, visited the Mariposa Grove of Sequoias, Sequoia National Park (which explains the many tree pics Rick, lol), Kings Canyon...I'm sure I'm missing stuff. We never started later than 8am and never returned to our cabin earlier than 8pm.
If we had another day, we would have visited Hetch Hetchy.
Awesome trip and I would recommend it to anyone. For my taste, the Valley was way too crowded. Spectacular views and scenery and not to be missed, but I enjoyed the Tioga Road much more.

Tioga pass is a breathtaking drive to put it mildly! The trick to avoiding the crowds is hit it in the off season, definitely before & after Memorial Day & Labor Day. You access Hetch Hetchy from Camp Mather which is down a road just before the North Gate to the valley. You pretty much saw it all though, I never get enough. Sometimes when I'm staying at Pine Mtn. Lake in Groveland we just drive in for lunch at The Ahwanee Hotel. Spoiled!!!

Always like hearing/seeing your excursions, Bill & Jane! smile It has been a very long ago time since I have been to either Yosemite or Sequoia/Kings Canyon parks, but, then again, the beautiful memories remain forever.  wink

Jdawg is right on about off season visits to avoid crowds (applies to things such as Disney resorts, etc. also wink).
I have camped in Sequoia/Kings Canyon during the winter in my far past, and it was the total opposite of crowded. big_smile
