Topic: Joe, the example for no drugs & alcohol

Hello everybody!

I think Joe is a good example for giving his best for his fans without drugs.
He cares about his voice. I read about him he drinks no alcohol on tour and at home.
The Drug Issue in the Business is always there.
I have a increasing alcohol problem and i am on the way to change that.
Im young and not at the abyss but in 5-10years i arrive that when i change nothing.
I saw many great singers live who failed with a bad voice because mariuhana and alcohol.

Your opinion counts.

Thx.

Joe does in fact drink on tour and at home. He enjoys a glass of good red wine for sure. He doesn't drink to excess. Good luck to you. Moderation is the key.

Re: Joe, the example for no drugs & alcohol

Congratulations on your decision to limit your drinking!!  I worked as a crisis responder and saw many, many people destroy their lives with alcohol. Meth is worse, but you can get alcohol almost anywhere.

I agree with Rick - moderation (in ALL things) is important.  Joe is not a hard drinker type of rocker (thank god!)  But, I've seen Joe photographed with glasses of wine (nice wine glasses) so I know he drinks wine.

I am a non-drinker and only smoke pot (I quit cigarettes two years ago). I think if I limit my intoxicants to pot I will be alright (I'm 63 years old and have not had alcohol in decades) Good luck with your efforts to control yours!

Re: Joe, the example for no drugs & alcohol

Joe does enjoy a glass of wine on occasion. And he did give up smoking, which is a very good thing. Moderation is key when it comes to drinking, for some people that really means none at all.

Re: Joe, the example for no drugs & alcohol

Moderation is fine for most people, but for some it's all or nothing.  Please take care of yourself, and if it means quitting completely, so be it.  It can be done - Joe quit smoking, SRV quit drugs and alcohol... lots of people have been able to free themselves of their demons.  It's not easy but it can be done.

The world needs more JB fans, so stay healthy!

Re: Joe, the example for no drugs & alcohol

Joe's lack of substance issues was one of the things that attracted me to him.

Good luck to you Robdog and be well always!

Robdog- It can be done! 21 years sober for me.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Joe, the example for no drugs & alcohol

Rob, if you had to pick a hero, or just a person who inspires you, you couldn't have picked anyone better than Joe.

I wish you well. Stay Safe.

Joe is the antithesis of the mainstream celeb. That's what makes him 1000% more appealing. He's a great artist I fully respect and enjoy listening to.

No drama. Just music. An example to follow.

I gave up everything except Diet Coke and Red Wine..  The party never starts out here.. All of my band and crew operate the same way by enlarge.  Its not mandated but it is what you get when you hire professionals.

I would imagine the work schedule you have would require most people to not overindulge to function at a high level. So kudos to you Joe to discipline yourself and to find professionals that are on the same page.

Robdog...thanks for putting that out there and being so honest about yourself.  I wish you nothing but success, which I am sure you will achieve.  Unfortunately, like many, I come from a long line of addicts myself.  I was able to recognize the signs when I  started to take that path and was absolutely adamant about not continuing to walk it.  The moment was so profound that I remember the exact day and year that it happened and what triggered it.  Be strong and know that there is loads of support and success stories proving that it is possible.

Thanks to all and i wish everybody success, too.

Loved this topic.  Glad Joe chimed in.  My dad was a binge drinker. It was a struggle but he finally gave it up.  This is a great place to come if you need a friend

Re: Joe, the example for no drugs & alcohol

Robdog,

A few thoughts.  If you recognize a problem or the beginning of one, it's most likely worse than you think.  We are always last to figure it out.  While some aren't born an alchoholic you can absolutely make yourself one.  The obessive compulsive type behavior often will transfer itself, so be vigilant.

While there are many cliche's that sound tacky, many I have found helpful.  'One day at a time'  is my favorite.  Useful in almost any situation.  You dont have to do anything forever.  Just today, this hour, or minute, whatever it takes.

I always try to remember where I came from and focus on who I want to be.  Someday I hope to be as awesome as I thought I was when I was drinking. smile

Good luck and Rock on,

Paul
