Topic: World Cup 2014 Brazil

So the time has come, Here comes The Worlds Biggest Sporting Tournament in South America watched by over a Billion people Worldwide.

This time we travel to the home of Beautiful Football   Brazil    it will be hugely colourful like a party moreso that South Africa 4 years ago, this will indeed be colourful like no other World Cup

We all hope our own nations do well and play to their true potential (England Yeah Right tongue  )

Looking forward as i always do to seeing Countries play for their lives, 32 countries trying to lift Sports Biggest prize,   In Brazil i think will be 3 faves  Brazil Argentina and Spain
these 3 surely the winners will come from, always never write off Germany, Holland, Italy
Dark Horses come i believe in the form of Uruguay, Chile, Ivory Coast, Belguim
and of course the star players to show their brilliant skill and flair Lionel Messi, Neymar, Christiano Ronaldo.

ive watched every world cup since 1970 with intense dedication, it just is a huge spectacle with fans from every country supporting at the games in colours and the TV coverage will be spectacular,

Tomorrow Brazil v Croatia kicks off the World Cup tournament after the opening ceremony which will probably be like some crazy Rio Carnival, expecting Neymar to be the star of the tournament over Messi, but would love to see Lionel shine with his awesome skill, he is the Joe Bonamassa of Football,  Neymar has alot on his shoulders, he is the new Pele and a nation holds its breath for him to produce amazing moments.

and i predict a Brazil v Spain Final

.............. Michael

ps , i think England will not make it out of the group, Uruguay are too Strong and italy are like a Machine

i hope USA do well and get to Quarters at least for all my friends over the Atlantic and America can get behind their team and support them

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

Preliminary reports from the local scene state a sense of confusion and dismay among the locals. Not the normal joyous state we've known from Brasil. Seems the planning didn't work as planned with national strikes right up to the start. I hope for the best.
As to the teams, US will be very lucky to make it past the group. Our coach stated they aren't good enough to go far which was a shocker to the fans here, and thoughts of a sandbag ploy still remain. It is the "group of death" though and some strong team will be headed home from it with dashed hopes. I too think we will see the usual suspects with a cinderella or two in the round of 8.
Best of luck to all the countries participating with hopes of a peaceful and joyous event.

Rick

Arguably our "group of death" (with Spain, The Netherlands and Chile) > yours!
I think the chances of proceeding to the knockout stage are slim for either - or England.

I quite enjoyed the first game. Croatia were repeatedly hurt by not being quick enough to use the ball but showed they're not a bad side. Questionable penalty aside, I thought 3-1 was a fair representation of the match. It will be interesting to see what Brazil are like against, say, Spain (my pick for the Final).

It's going to be a tough few weeks with our time-zone, most kick-offs being 2am, 5am and 8am!

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

I too thought Croatia gave a good account of themselves. If they had a failing it was a lack of ambition to shoot from outside the area. Modric particularly guilty of this and as a result Cesar was never properly tested. That said Ratukic and Modric were very effective.

Brazil were intense at times but were slow starting. I think they deserved to win but 3-1 wasn't a fair refelection. I would have gone with 2-1. The penalty decision was very poor. It was about the only thing Fred contributed towards the game and then it was a 'cheat'. No wonder he thanked the heavnes after it was awarded. Neymar was lucky to stay on the field but no doubt the Japanese ref shied clear of sending off Brazil's superstar. He needs to watch himself though.

Overall, I think Brazil's future opponents learnt a lot about them. From what I could see they have no definitive 'leader' on the pitch. Lots of talent but no one pulling the strings. Maybe it is enough, but Croatia gave them a lot of problems so Brazil have a lot to take on board.

On the one hand it was interesting to see, but I have never seen a Brazil side so intent on using the long ball as this one. Plus, I noted defensively they are pretty agricultural as well. The tactic seems to be "yes we are going to lose the ball a lot, but when we get it back we attack like hell............"

From what I saw last night they will be no match for Spain anytime. But this group will at least give them time to improve.

One thing I really liked though is the free kick wall marking. Super and simple idea. Maybe linesman should use it on where throw ins should be taken from. The encroachment here is at ridiculous levels.

One thing to do away with is the 'Technical area'. I really don't want to see trainers like Scolari complaining about every kick and every throw.

Bring on the next game!

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

Brasil had a lot of pre match pressure on them, - the mood of some over in Brasil about this world cup is shameful. - But as a team their performance was suspect, - as the coach of only a kids football team I could see the repeating venerability of the team, which is down the wings. I have never been a fan of Dani Alves and last nights game, - what I saw of it before falling asleep proved why, - he will not track back and is always think about going forward. I get that he is a wing back, - but his positioning last night was not good, - he was coming infield to get involved and narrow the play which may have been an attempt to control Modric by giving his less room, but it left Brasil woefully exposed down their right flank.

From what I saw the final score line was flattering on Brasil, - perhaps big Phill will get them sorted out defensively? If it does n’t, no hope.

Referee, - same old same old, - ref's from Countries that have little of no experience at this level. Cannot blame them, it is political correctness that puts them in the position they are, - if FIFA had any sense they would export referees from one country to another to give them give experience at the top level.

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

Good first game i thought.  2 - 1  would have been a fairer result - the penalty? Soft... no, more like squidgy! and Neymar nearly ::""?>? it up! Maybe he should have!

yep, me too. Nice to see some Low tech being introduced in a increasingly Hi-Tech game.

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

Good first match. Croatia is a fairly strong team and might have given the Brazil side some second thoughts. I think the European's stronger teams will find some bad matchups against the South Americans, especially Argentina, my pick for the cup, who looked very strong in the Q's and have missed out on the late injury bug. No European team has ever won in South American WC's. Local fervor will make a difference. My Mexican pals here look on today's match with some deserved trepidation.

edit, Mexico hangs on in a flood, the Dutch destroy Spain???? Never saw that one coming.

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

Van Persie and Robben - just WOW!

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

Spain 1 Holland 5 ... Wow

What a masterplan by Louis Van Gaal, usually Spain would pass around teams if given the space, you could see Holland even tho they went 1-0 down, they attacked every space and hustled Spain on the ball giving them no time to settle into their passing system, Yeah Arjan Robben tore Spain apart and Robin Van Persie was equally sharp, infact the whole dutch team were once again playing "Football Football" just like the old days, this World Cup has started sharp, Spain now have to regroup and play Chile next in their 2nd match,  Chile who start against Australia later and are very quick flowing side, will that be a surprise ?

Really enjoying watching, for a dude who never gave it much thought growing up, totally caught up.....300 million peeps in the US and we cant compete with the best, so sad sad

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

As a Man Utd fan I'm suddenly excited about Van Gaal's imminent arrival smile smile

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

Australia gave a good account of themselves. Full bloodied and brave hearted. Cahill is a nutter though and was lucky to stay on the pitch. But they through Chile a bit. The end scoreline was correct given Chile should have been the far better side. Can't see either bothering Holland unless they implode like they can do.

Just watching closing minutes of Columbia-Greece. Somehow Greece manage to make every game a bore, The Columbians have made hard work of it. A poor performance in my opinion. Perfect start with an early goal and then they have just sat on that until the second goal. Not good enough. They should have closed the game out in the first half already.

I didn't,t count the Greek passes that went backwards but it is well over a hundred I should think. Thank goodness for the early goal or the Greeks would have parked the bus, Mourinho style.

Yes! Columbia just got the third goal. Finally!

I,ve watched every game live so far. Holland by a long way the most impressive. Mexico look good too. Croatia will need to be at their best to overcome them and go through.

Tonights the big one for we English. I don't,t feel optimistic. I,ll settle for a committed performance, whatever the score. I am pleased there are younger players in the side now. It will be a learning experience for them.

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

So far some very entertaining matches. Mexico may get through since the coach finally got them to get the Ecuador refs out of their heads and just play (there's a long string of tough match losses due to atrocious calls by officials from there). Chile is stronger than most and will probably advance. Good luck to England tonight, I hope Italy opens it up a bit and there's more than that boring stuff they usually do.

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

That's Uruguay 1 up. Absurd penalty for Costa Rica to give away. Both arms around the players midriff!
It looks hot where they are playing. I hope Uruguay go on to get a few more. I tipped them to win 4-1!

Flipping between the match and the 24 hours at LeMans. Already 1 Audi out. A monsoon early on with people off all over.
Toyota looking good, with Audi and Porsche in it. Long long way to go there.

Back to Brazil.....

Costa Rica level. Fully deserved. Uruguay are unbelievably poor. Very short on ideas. Oops now they are 2-1 behind!

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

Could be an upset on the cards. Costa Rica are more direct, but at the moment their passing and possession is better. Looks like they need Luis Suarez, bad knee or not

Re: World Cup 2014 Brazil

Well an upset and no mistake. Fully deserved. The reason? Uruguay have simply not displayed and quality whatsoever. Passing poor. Creativity zero. They simply gave the ball away at every opportunity, poor control, poor vision, poor decision making.

Still we have a new star that everyone will want . Costa Rica,s Campbell. He was magnificent. 21 years old and he played like a captain. Terrific stuff.
