Has anyone else noticed the opening riff to Lucinda Williams' "Righteously" recorded around 2003? It's very much the way Joe starts his RAH show... note for note... Has this been discussed?

Not note for note to my ears . . . ?
It's uncanny. Joe said that he built the riff on something from Django Reinhardt. He named the piece... i'll check it out again.

It is a riff from Django's "Vous et Moi." A 72 year old tune...
Modern version; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bapLFhZ7-oE cannot recall if Joe said this inspired him to research the original, I think so but not sure enough to believe so completely...wikipedia suggests the original, but I thought Joe had mentioned Lagrene at some point past... Anyway, here's the original; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWYOKFi8pd8where Django switches to violin on "Vous et Moi" and "Blues et Mineur" (Album name is Blues et Mineur) and Stéphane Grappelli switches from violin to guitar!
from Wikipedia: Songs written in Reinhardt's honour include "Django," an instrumental guitar piece by renowned blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa. The piece was influenced by the violin introduction of "Vous et Moi" (Blues et Mineur 1942, Brussels) where Reinhardt himself played the violin. Vous et Moi (You and Me) became the title of Bonamassa's sixth album where the track first appeared in 2006. Slightly longer live versions appear on LIVE...From Nowhere in Particular (2009), and in DVD from 4 May concert at Royal Albert Hall.

If you don't know this one, then Gary Moore actually lost the plagiarism court case for the solo on 'Still Got the Blues' to this band
