Topic: Autograph?

Besides Joe's, who's autograph that you have is your most treasured?

For me ... before he was in Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickenson went by the name Bruce Bruce in a band called Samson.  I got him to sign a Samson LP as Bruce Bruce back in early 1982 at my local record store when Maiden was in town and opening for Blackmore's Rainbow.

I don't have many autographs, but this one is unique enough to be my favorite.

Gibson 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Reissue, Gibson LP Standard Faded CSB, Gibson Gary Moore LP Standard, Epi Joe Bonamassa GT LP, Epi Zakk Wylde LP, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Jackson Randy Rhoads V, ESP/LTD George Lynch Kamikaze, EVH Striped Series R/B/W, Fender/Squire John 5 Telecaster, Fender Joe Strummer Relic Telecaster

Re: Autograph?

guess I'm weird not ever wanting to collect any. I had a chance through the years to get some good ones, setting up for concerts at Univ of Alabama and other opportunities, including Joe. You know, back in the 60's and 70's most artists would not hang around for a signing session afterwards, and if you got one before the concert it was just plain accidental. I had dinner in Houston with Larry Carlton and his band before the concert, they were sitting across the room and next to nobody in there, wish now I had at least gone over to say hello. Son and I hung out with Eric Gales in Memphis on several occasions, I never once asked him for an auto and he didn't offer. My son does have an auto from Charlie Daniels, but never actually met him, his mother got it for him. and he's not a big fan of CD. smile
I just tell people that I collect guitarists, and not autographs.

I've got a few, I got Eric Gales to sign one of his tees Tres, and one I treasure is another Eric of the Johnson variety.

Re: Autograph?

A friend of mine worked at our city's rock radio station.  He knew I was a metal head, so in 1980 when Ozzy was in studio to promote his new band and debut album Blizzard do Ozz, he had Ozzy sign a promo copy of the album for me. Pretty cool right?  But Ozzy wasn't alone that day.  He happened to have brought along his new guitarist.  But my friend didn't think I would want some nobody named Randy Rhoads signing it and potentially messing a collectible.

Sigh....

Re: Autograph?

I've told this story before, but about 20+ years ago, I spent the better part of an hour at a downtown Chicago bar chatting with a really nice older gentlemen. Eventually we got to talking about work, which is when I found out it was Al Lewis, aka Grandpa Munster.
He signed a bar napkin for me which I held onto for about 10 years. When we moved homes I tossed it. It had been sitting in a drawer forever and the memories were way more meaningful than the bar napkin.
That however, would have been up there on the list.

Re: Autograph?

Funny one. Wife and I are having dinner at a nice establishment. I notice a lady at a nearby table eyeing me and then finally she gets up and comes over to our table and hands me a napkin and pen. "Could I have your autograph?"  (Charleton Heston was a frequent guest at this restaurant) I smiled and said sure, signed a scrawl and she went back to her table in a daze. The wife kept a straight face since it had happened before. I couldn't break the lady's bubble. At the time, I was pretty much a dead ringer for him. lol

Re: Autograph?

Not music related; but Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee - unfortunately not on the same picture.

Music, my "biggest" has to be Hank, Bruce & Brian - aka The Shadows
