So glad Muddy is still with them playing. He has great tone and his playing is masterful. Superb foil and brings out the best in Andy Powell. Muddy's slide playing is sublime.

Hopefully get a chance to have some banter with Bob Skeat who always comes out front afterwards in Hamburg.

Re: Wishbone Ash on Tour 2013 / 2014

October 12th - Whitby Pavillion

So at the week-end, I had my first exposure to “proper” Wishbone Ash, not the Martin Turner project which I’ve encountered twice previously. Straight away, this one knocks the latter several weeks past last Sunday for my money; a much sharper, gutsier sound; helped no doubt by the wall of brand new Orange amps & heads at the back of the stage.

Your band for the evening was, the indomitable Andy Powell, Bob Skeat on bass, Joe Crabtree behind the drums, and relative freshman Mark Abrahams on 2nd guitar. That said, it’s no use chasing me for the set-list as this is one of those bands I didn’t quite get, despite owning several albums back in the day; probably the "wrong” albums; however, it didn’t stop me from enjoying almost 100 minutes of superb guitar-team work from Messers Powell & Abrahams - all except The King Will Come which for some reason always makes my teeth itch…? The set also included a respite of a couple of acoustic numbers before they switched up and powered through the remainder of the set and had me pinned to the back wall of the Pavillion.

Impressed enough to say that @ll be catching them again later in the tour, but maybe not so that I can say I’m a newly converted fan; too many years have passed. Maybe I need a hand in cherry-picking their finest moments but I looked hard on their merch stand but couldn’t find the album Xlix.......

Re: Wishbone Ash on Tour 2013 / 2014

Oct 30th Stockton ARC

Well, that's been a leap - from an "Ash virgin" to 2 shows in the same tour, let alone 2 in the same year. I even came away with a CD & DVD. (Woah! Steady on!!) Guess it’s fair to say I’m really getting a handle on them, even though it’s taken XLIX years….

Just another great show from Andy, Bob, Joe & Mark; relaxed banter between the songs and then into some of the tightest twin-guitar work you could dream to see, and hear….

Very well-balanced set, but I feel I was the only one in the room that couldn’t get excited about the Argus segment… Not to worry though, came out well-entertained, and that’s what it’s all about.

Set list:-
Bona Fide
Eyes Wide Open
Deep Blues
Way Down South
Lifeline
The King Will Come
Warrior
Throw Down the Sword
Leaf and Stream
F.U.B.B.
Standing in the Rain
Jail Bait
Phoenix
Encore: Blowin’ Free

Nice to catch up with a lot of friends, especially 66% of The Mentulls or 100% of Pipe Brothers Project, depending how the wind blows, out and about. Long overdue getting back on stage, lads...
