Topic: Bournemouth, Sept 20th

Surprised to see there is no Bournemouth post up here…..so here goes.
Joe has played this area quite a few times and in his early days played at Mr.Kyps, a small (but great in stature) venue of 250 heads or so. Indeed he played there shortly before his 09 Albert Hall gig. It is folklore down here that JB’s first UK gig was at Mr.Kyps.
Been bustin' a gut to see him at the BIC since I got my tickets months ago. Have to say my wife and I had a great time ( i'm pushing 60) and thought Joe was amazing and the band were on great form too. Looked pretty packed to my eyes and barring a few fidget bums the crowd were respectful of the performance. The sound was pretty good I felt. Slightly fat on the bottom end …nothing out of the usual there really. Vocals were slightly surpressed unless Joe stuck the mic down his throat. I came away very very satisfied that I had seen a damned good gig. Joe and the band gave it 110% throughout the night.  The gig was around 2hrs 20 mins and he packed the tunes in non stop to a hugely appreciative audience. He even found time for a short bit of banter about Bournemouth!!
I’m not going to attempt a running order set list. I can only be accurate on the order of the first few…I was after all, there to see and hear the great man. He started with an acoustic set and then moved straight into electric. I can say for definite the first electric was Dislocated Boy and the barnstorming encores were Sloe Gin and a truly wonderful version of TBoJH.

Acoustic set

Palm Trees Helicopters and Gasoline
Seagull
Jelly Roll
Woke Up Dreaming

Electric set

Dislocated Boy
Dust Bowl
Last Matador of Bayonne
Who's Been Talking?
Black Lung Heartache
Happier Times
Driving Towards the Daylight
Slow Train
When The Fire Hits The Sea
No Love on the Street
Just Got Paid
Midnight Blues                                                                                                                                                                The Meaning of The Blues                                                                                                                                                Last Kiss
You Better Watch Yourself
Django
Mountain Time ( had a quirky Won’t Get Fooled Again ending)
Encore                                                                                                                                                                           Sloe Gin
The Ballad of John Henry

A special guest appeared for one number. None other than Bernie Marsden, he of Wild Turkey and Whitesnake among others. Geezer next to me told me he is writing a bit with Joe too.
I know it seems I have too many tunes but that is what I wrote down when I got home..at that point only for my own interest.

Re: Bournemouth, Sept 20th

Mmmm sorry, but you're off beam with that set list, it was as per the Luna Park, Argentina review, with a couple of minor differences - The first electric number was Dust Bowl, and instead of playing Spanish Boots, Joe played a funky Look Over Yonders Wall with the guest appearance by BM.

The concert duration was indeed nearly 2 hours 20, and like me, glad you had a true Bona experience.

Re: Bournemouth, Sept 20th

And yep, the Mr Kyps May 2005 bootleg ranks amongst the best there is... That's probably why Joe likes to revisit the English Malibu. I also liked his ditty about the chicken tikka at the Eye of The Tiger lol

Yeah I'm sure you're right. I would not claim to be an expert on JB, merely a keen admirer. Only really got into him in the last 3 years or so. Cracking good show all said and done. It just struck me as odd that there was no mention of B'mouth up here, so thought I'd give it a go.

Cheers.
Don't know why my listing has jumped around....sorry about that. Can't tidy it either...it jumps back wrong again.
San Diego eh! My son passed thru there a couple of days back and is in San Fran now. He always wanted to take the pacific highway in a convertible Mustang..so he's doing it! Off to Lake Tahoe and the Rockies after. Having a great time and loving the people.

Re: Bournemouth, Sept 20th

This is the set list Joe did last Friday.  It got posted under General Topics as a thread had been started there and I'm partly to blame sad   Probably should be moved here.

Set list:

Acoustic -
Palm Trees Helicopters and Gasoline
Seagull
Jelly Roll
Athens to Athens
Woke up Dreaming

electric -
Dust Bowl
Story of a Quarry man
Who's been talking
Someday after a while
Dislocated Boy
Driving Towards the Daylight
Slow Train
Midnight Blues
Look over yonder's wall
Song of Yesterday
Django
Mountain Time

encore-
Slow Gin for the 2,576th time
Ballad of John Henry

Normski - I don't recall Joe playing Kyps just before his first Albert Hall show in 2009???  I know he played 05, 06 and twice in 07 but unless I missed something ...?  Glad you enjoyed the show.  Joe does seem to like playing at the Malibu of the UK.  Just wish we got the same weather as they do.

I'm sure you guys know better than me but I was sure he did When The Fire Hits The Sea ( it was that really distinctive opening..and I love that track) and Last Matador ( maybe I've listened to too many live shows smile
But I'm sure he did No Love On The Streets...do you remember he walked over to Tal with his back to us whilst the tape loop played the wailing sirens...I even said to Sal this is gonna be No Love On The Streets.
Right, I'm booking myself into the 'Bide a wee Rest Home' for early alzheimer cases...feel like I'm losing it sad

Wish he had done Last Matador but sadly not.  Don't think he's ever done that one live.  Didn't play the other two either smile  So sorry mate, but I think you need to go lie down!!!  Unless it's me who's losing it  but I saw the set list so I'm pretty sure it's right.
