very sorry to hear that dawg. They say it's now 20% contained, but it doesn't look good in the next few days. It would be really tragic if it took out some of those Seqouias. They need some divine intervention here, fingers crossed for rain.

Thanks Tre, the homes in Pine Mtn. Lake are out of danger now, but the fire is still moving toward Tuolemne and Sonora, very populated areas. I've had a reservation @ Black Oak Casino to catch an old friends band play there on 9/7, but all their events are cancelled for this weekend as their hotel is housing firefighters on the front line there in Tuolemne City. Doesn't look good for the following weekend at this point.

Re: Yosemite Rim Fire

the fire is NOT cool (no pun intended) but this is. Can't they do better than $1 a day for putting your life on the line? At least it is a voluntary program.

After reading it thru, they get $1 an hour, but most importantly I think they get a redemptive sense of doing something good for the community and a way to find things in themselves in the process that will help them find a life that does not include going back to jail.

Hard to imagine they consider life at a fire fight base camp better conditions than serving conventional time.

Extra prayers for those volunteers and many thanks too.

I do not consider them volunteers.  They get a big payoff.

But for the one's that do and the firemen, I hope the fires become a lot less.  What you do and what you risk to protect us is so admirable.  I hope we get a good rainy season in the winter, to relieve some of these dry conditions for next summer.  I am very sorry for the losses people suffered through the fires.

well, then HE needs to cough up the 70 million dollars or whatever it turns out to be. pretty cool slideshow included, although some of it makes me sick to my stomach now that we know it wasn't lightning.
