Topic: Little League World Series

Local interest, since the San Diego area is a hotbed of talent. The Chula Vista All Stars are blazing through the field, with an extra inning complete game no hitter in the first game and a mercy rule drubbing yesterday. Situated just 18 miles to the South across the border are the Tijuana All Stars who are looking very strong in the International Section. We all think it would be most cool if those two teams meet for the championship.

Re: Little League World Series

watched a little of it over the weekend, Chula looks real good and I expect them in the final. have not seen the Tiajuana team yet, but that Chinese Taipei team put on a show yesterday. They are very disciplined at the plate. I'll pull for Nashville at the moment, but they have one loss.

Re: Little League World Series

You'll get a chance to see both the local teams in action tomorrow Tres. TJ opens at 1 Pacific vs Japan, then Eastlake follows vs Westport at 5. Both on ESPN. Baseball in its best form. Boys having fun.

If only it was that simple. The day I found out my wife and I were having a son I couldn't wait to coach baseball in Little League. After 8 years in LL & senior LL I couldn't be happier to be done with it! Too many parents interfere and try to live through their young ones, not to mention how most coaches/board members like to bend the rules as far as possible.

Re: Little League World Series

Spent 14 years coaching my two boys from 5 year old to 14. Some times both at the same time. I have my own take on Little League the good the bad the ugly. I do have this opinion on the Little League World series the movie which now televises more than the championship game.

Little League is a big money franchise that uses softball rules. 60' tight bases with an early maturing or birth certificate altered kid on the mound 46 feet away throwing 70 plus miles an our which is equivalent to 90 miles an hour in reaction time. Doesn't have to worry about holding a runner just winds up and wings it. If some kid sticks his aluminum trampoline bat out and actually makes contact a long fly ball sails over the 200 foot fence. Yawn..

At 12 our league played 70 ft bases with 48 ft pitching distance complete with lead offs and a fence nobody could reach till they were 14. I won a state championship one year with my youngest's team, only because Tulsa wasn't in it. Tulsa had teams that would kick any Little League in Americas asses and I occasionally had Brandon Weedon (Cleveland Browns) on my team as a pickup since he played up a year. My oldest played with Matt Roney (Colorado Rockies) and Joey Nation ( Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs)

We used to laugh at the Little League World Series every year and wonder what those boys were doing playing on a softball diamond. Sorry Rick had to vent. Good luck to your locals. I might watch the finals if I can stay awake.  wink

Go Eastlake! Go TiJuana!

A gleam of light in the midst of our great city's shame and relief at our disgraced mayor's demise. Alternately contrite and defiant, his parting shot at the "lynch mob" that forced his resignation left all wondering how we ever could have elected him. I'm proud to have been one of that mob who walked the streets with the recall petitions and not the implied pitchforks and torches that brought the final pressure to bear. It was easy, he furnished the rope and tree.

Now on to better things. Play ball!

Re: Little League World Series

That was some good ball in the finals. Our local boys didn't win it all but the area is proud they went to the top.
Japan's defense was very good. Well played.

Re: Little League World Series

I think the Cali. coach could have juggled his pitching better by using as many of his other pitchers as needed to keep the game in reach and saved his kid for the last 4 innings. The pitching limits are the trickiest part of coaching in LL, been there, done that!
