Topic: Joe Writing For a New Solo Album!

From Joe's Facebook:

"Today I officially start writing for the next solo album that we will record next winter. The first song always sets the pace for the album but never makes the album. I'm excited to open a new chapter to my recording career and to focus on my first love. The Blues!!!"

Another blues record, sweet!

Guitars:
Epiphone Les Paul Junior Black + Gold Hardware, PRS SE Santana Yellow, Ovation Double-Neck Semi-Acoustic, Ovation Celebrity CC44 Honeyburst, Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard Heritage Cherry Sunburst (#10), Gibson Robot Les Paul Studio 2012 Limited, Gibson 1976 Les Paul Custom Heritage Cherry Sunburst

Re: Joe Writing For a New Solo Album!

Sounds like another winner in the making, can't wait. But why does the first song never make the album? Inquiring minds want to know, Joe? You know it's gotta be good, is it just historical in nature or what? I always throw out the first pancake, they are no good but the second is usually a keeper. smile

Re: Joe Writing For a New Solo Album!

I'm all for keeping it simple...with a couple of Jimmy K amps and letting the 59's out the pen for a rampage.

Re: Joe Writing For a New Solo Album!

Maybe its a Hendrix thing,
He'll have so many songs recorded and never released, Joe's family will have 20+ years of albums to release after.....

---------------

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

Blues Game On Joe! Can't wait...hopefully you'll toss us a bone every now and then until it's released...plus it's never too early to start thinking about a new Christmas release wink

I remember reading or seeing an interview with Jakob Dylan of The Wallflowers and he says that the first songs you write are never very good. It's the continued process that makes the songs better. Basically get all of the bad ideas out of the way before the good ones come to you.

LOL, gary.  Yep, that Joe, he's such a "slacker".  tongue wink

I look forward to at least snippets of ongoing news about the project.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Joe Writing For a New Solo Album!

Looking forward to a new blues cd! Perhaps a baseball blues song? My first thought when a read this tweet a few days back! "@JBONAMASSA: It is so sad to see so many empty seats at Baseball games. I'm a big baseball fan and it should draw better. #postlongdrivepontificating Lol" That hashtag does say long drive, if I  am remembering correctly a comment about going for a drive to do some songwriting for another cd wink

Should be a natural. Baseball is such a frustrating, disappointing game so much of the time. "A game of failure," as one player so eloquently put it...

Well he could call it "The Eighteenth Inning Blues"      I worked an Iowa Cubs game yesterday that went for 18 innings and I worked the other 18 inning game a few years back....both games are franchise records for longest played.......let me tell ya' it does get unmerciful after awhile standing in the hot-hot summer sun from 10:45 in the morning until 6:45 in the early eve and the stands closed down at normal times so nothing to eat or drink.....the fans were yelling, "We're getting dehydrated up here......open the beer stands!! " ....if Joe writes the music I could pen the lyrics   lol

Wow, that does sound like the blues. Hot day, baseball and no beer? Geez, that is uncivilized!

Re: Joe Writing For a New Solo Album!

This is so weird because I came up with one just about 2 months ago, Warning Track Blues. I've played around with a few lyrics and asked my son to come up with some generic rythym guitar but no music written yet, and it probably won't be. Neither of us are or ever have been songwriters. I/we came up with the name because it is pretty hard to hit one out of Turner stadium in Atlanta. A lot of the Braves long balls end up caught on the warning track. However, my idea was that it would not be about baseball but rather about warning signs that a lover was considering dumping me.
