Topic: James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano - RIP

I really think that Tony Soprano is 'too big' to simply be dealt with in the all-purpose RIP topic.

I'm really shocked, not only is 51 far too young to be dying of a massive heart attack, but The Sopranos was by general common consent one of the very finest shows ever. I can never decide if I like Sopranos or the Wire more, one of those is certainly my favorite series ever.

Maybe we can mark this great show, and this great character, with quotes or favorite moments?

Dr. Melfi - "When's the last time you had a prostate exam?"

Tony - "Hey, I don't even let anyone wag their finger in my face."

RIP James aka Tony

Rip Mr. James Gandalfini. Gone way too soon.
One of my all time favorite shows. Never missed an episode. In fact I watched them all at least twice.

Re: James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano - RIP

Quite a shock as I walked in from work this evening. I couldn't watch him in anything without looking at him as Tony Soprano, he made that character come to life. My favorite TV series of all time, so this puts an end to my dream of a Sopranos movie after the vague ending to the series.

Wow...he was young  ..RIP

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano - RIP

yeah, quite a shock, very sad because he had more acting to do. I was wishy-washy on the Sopranos, great series for sure but there were several shows I thought were not all that good. I have since watched many in syndication. RIP big guy.

Re: James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano - RIP

firstly RIP to the big guy. - Bit of a shocker to wake up and hear that. - Love his acting style.

- just as an aside interesting to read that understandable perception of 51 being such a young age to die which of course it is, - but just thought to myself that it is a great sign of medical advancement, improved diet etc that 51 is considered so young when not so many years ago perhaps it was not?

Thanks G Dawg, all I remembered was Journey playing and an incredibly lame finish to a great series. Shoulda let Feat play.

Meadow: Dad, are you in the Mafia?

Tony: What?, I'm in waste management. Everybody thinks if your in that your mobbed up. It's a stereotype and its degrading. Well, some of my money comes from illegal gambling.

Re: James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano - RIP

The Brit newspaper 'The Independent' posted 10 of Tony Soprano best quotes ...

1. On love: “Well, when you’re married, you’ll understand the importance of fresh produce.”

2. On therapy: “This psychiatry s***, apparently what you’re feeling is not what you’re feeling and what you’re not feeling is your real agenda.”

3.  “Is this a woman thing? You ask me how I’m feeling. I tell you how I’m feeling, and now you’re going to torture me with it.”

4. “Cunnilingus and psychiatry brought us to this.”

5. On being the boss: “All due respect, you got no f***ing idea what it’s like to be Number One.”

6. “You don’t s*** where you eat. And you really don’t s*** where I eat.”

7. “If you can quote the rules, then you can obey them.”

8. On the internet: “Log off. That ‘cookie’ s*** makes me nervous.”

9. On Chicken Soup for the Soul: You should read 'Tomato Sauce for your ****'. It’s the Italian version.

10. On being in the Mafia: “What use is an unloaded gun?”

Re: James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano - RIP

Some good stuff here.

I always wondered if they put his wheezing in after he had recorded the scenes. I mean christ he was a fair bit younger when he did the shows, but even so. OK he blamed his sinus but he was a big guy for sure.

Mind you he was damn believable in the role. When he would come home you knew he was going straight to that great F*** o** fridge and finish off last nights pasta.

Great character though. Only Tony could find someone to off when he was visiting Uni's with his daughter. The man lived his job. The ducks were just killer. And those fantasy scenes with Dr. Melfi...

There was other good work to. Get Shorty and some good scenes in Crimson Tide as I recall. But Tony S was his calling. No question.
