Thanks for the shout out Nancy. My pleasure. Joe's first show was here in 2003. Sorry it took you a couple of years to hear about Joe.

I felt compelled to share my find after seeing Joe the previous year and the reward I was after was not financial but reactions like yours and so many more Okies have made it one of the most satisfying things I have done in my life since raising my family here.

When I first saw Joe I made the prediction that Joe would influence a whole new generation of guitar players and that prediction came through once again at yesterdays blues jam. The local blues society hosts a jam once a month and we occasionally get teen aged jammers. I'm sitting at the signup sheet and the 17 year old and his mother come over to sign up. I like to ask them a few questions so I know when and who with to get them up with so I asked if he sang. He said yes and I asked him does he have any song he would like to do which he replied a couple  of Joe Bonamassa songs. I told him to get ready he was going up next. I think I'm going to like you. He stepped up plugged in and ripped into Walk in my Shadows followed by Fire and Water. Of course I never told him those were songs by Free he did Joe's versions and I doubt he had ever heard the originals but what impressed me the most was the kid just went up there and owned the stage no fear. I think he picked a good guy to emulate.

I so appreciate your bringing Joe here in 2006, Jim   I too am sorry I was a little late in discovering Joe, but am so glad I did, thanks to you!
How great to hear the younger generation is trying to copy him. I worry about the blues dying out with the dying out of my Baby Boomer generation. I am very glad Joe is influencing young guitar players! And yes he picked an excellent role model to emulate!  Joe is absolutely the best there is on this earth, IMO!

Maybe  he's sold more than a 1,000 wink

It was rumored that Robert Johnson, born on the same day as Joe, sold his soul for success. When I try to explain the hold Joe has on me to my friends, that is what comes to my mind. I say, "I think Joe sold his soul to the devil because I can not explain his hold on me other wise". Of course, I am only joking! I know Joe did not do anything of the sort but his hold on me is explainable even for me!!!

Of course I meant "Unexplainable" when referring to Joe's hold on me. Thanks Rocket for pointing that out to me!!!

I have never felt this way about any other artist in my life and I am closing in on 59 years of age. What is it about him that is so very addicting and seems to suck you in?

Early on (and through today), he was approachable and someone you could talk to after a show that melted your face off. Still is. Although you're not close personal friends, he remembers who you are if not by name definitely by face... and that has a ton of value.

I'll keep putting food on his table (and lesters in his lap) for having the talent, giving me time to speak with him, and remembering me from last time.

One must believe one can sell a soul for someone to do that. Fooey. I wrote more... but deleted it. I'll just say fooey.

No worries, sweetie, it just gave me a good chuckle.  smile I knew what you meant all along.  Since you were the topic author asking, it was way too much irony to ignore!  Thanks for the good laugh.  smile

LIVE MUSIC IS BEST

Re: What is it about this man, Joe Bonamassa?

For me, it's simple. He's a great guitarist, a great singer, and both a great interpreter and writer of material. For me, that would be enough to make me a lifelong fan. But his generosity towards his fans (and towards me and my wife especially) are what will make me a ardent defender of the faith forever. Thank you Joe. smile

Re: What is it about this man, Joe Bonamassa?

Joe's music is what first attracted me, and it has kept me coming back for the last nine years, but what to me is probably one of the greatest thing about be a Joe person is how, by being such an awesome PERSON and attracting equally awesome people as fans he has made it possible for me to discover and meet an amazing group of people, many of who are now very good friends - and not just locally but from all over the world.  My life has changed so much because of this, and I know this has happened for many others as well.  Joe, thank you for being who and what you are.

Re: What is it about this man, Joe Bonamassa?

Patty's list tells it all!

I'd also like to add my summary of one of Joe's Blues in the Schools talk from 2007 - Joe's openness with his fans and his willingness to encourage young fans - in addition to being a humble rock god on stage - all contribute to his amazing appeal.  I like to think that this write-up captures why we are all hooked on Joe:

Re: What is it about this man, Joe Bonamassa?

This was well before I jumped on the wagon and is a distillation of why I am here. Besides being a talent for the ages, he's a regular Joe. A very well scripted post. Thanks for the trip back in time.

Re: What is it about this man, Joe Bonamassa?

Thanks so much for posting that, Addysea. It was wonderful to read. Not only is he this fantastic musician, but as Rick was saying, it's his "regular Joe" personality when you get to meet and talk to him that makes him even that more appealing as a person.

Re: What is it about this man, Joe Bonamassa?

Thank you everyone who has posted to this thread.  A big "ditto" to everything that has been said and I am so happy to see that I am not alone.  I am 50ish and have never reacted to someone in music like this.  I am a classically trained musician and have never had an artist's music speak to me like Joe's has....and, he is such a wonderful person to boot.  It's like pride in your child that you need to share with everyone.  I met Joe in Nashville 2012 and I was so nervous at what I was going to say.  And, like a Mother, I was so distressed to see how tired he looked but he was out there meeting his loyal fans.  I asked what happened to the Flying V on the finale and he responded "but it was my Les Paul and I played 7 different guitars tonight!"  My lovely husband took the picture on my avatar from then and promptly sent it to our 3 kids and I show it to anyone who will listen....because, you know they all say "Joe who?".

Thanks to all of you and a bigger thanks to Joe for blessing us with his music and the great guy he is!

I KNOW he did not sell his soul to the devil, or there would be some underlying bad that would bleed thru.

I am right there with Cindyron, because he saved my life too.

Joe was kissed by 1,000 Angels before he graced this Earth and it can't help but show.

From the talent, to his generosity in helping the youngsters get the instruments in their  schools , to learn how to express themselves thru music.

He is all about giving and striving for excellence and inspires that in others, even if their talent isn't music, his music makes your "thing" better !!

Beergodess, I too think about why Joe has me so caught up in him.  I love all kinds of music but NO ONE has intrigued me the way Joe does.  I think I also feel much of a "motherly" bit for him.  I'm proud when he does well, I would defend him to anyone who said a bad word about him, I try to tell anyone who will listen all about him.

I feel like I go into withdrawals if I don't hear at least a couple of Joe songs each day.  How odd is that? I'm sure the fam would like to hear other things, but I have converted my kids over to JB fandom, though they are not as rabid as I.

I'm addicted.
